 About the work:

Carmen is a four-act opera by the French composer Georges Bizet. The libretto is written by Henri Melyak and Ludovik Alevi and is based on the novel of the same name by Prosper Merime. It premiered on March 3, 1875, at the Paris-based Opera Comic. She was initially considered a failure and was convinced that she was "immoral" and "superficial". Bizet died suddenly after the 33rd performance, unaware that his work would gain international recognition in the next ten years. Today, Carmen is one of the most famous and frequently played operas in the classic canon; The Habanera aria of the first act and the song of the toreador of the second act are some of the most famous arias in the opera. The opera is written in the style of an opera comedian with musical numbers separated by dialogue. The action unfolds in southern Spain and tells the story of the fall of Don Jose, a naive soldier who is seduced by the cunning of the fiery gypsy Carmen. Jose abandons his childhood sweetheart and escapes his military duties, but eventually loses Carmen's love because of the brilliant matador Escamilio, after which Jose kills her in a jealous rage. The depictions of proletarian life, immorality, and lawlessness, as well as the tragic death of the protagonist on stage, set a new beginning in French opera.

The pictures are from the rehearsal of Carmen - from 09.12.2019, on the stage of the Burgas Opera.
