27 august 2024 The "Emil Chakarov" Award Is Presented To Edelina Kaneva
The intense summer creative rhythm of the State Opera - Burgas is coming to its glamorous finale - after the memorable premiere of the world-famous musical "My Fair Lady" by Frederick Lowe, the second performance of the newest title in the repertoire of the Burgas Cultural Institute is coming. The event is the last within the framework of the Burgas Music Festivals "Emil Chakarov" 2024, successfully implemented for the seventeenth year in a row by the Burgas Opera in partnership with the Municipality of Burgas. 60 years after the world premiere of one of the most popular musicals - "My Fair Lady", starring Rex Harrison and Audrey Hepburn - in the film version, the famous Broadway title is also coming - on August 30 at 8:00 p.m. on the stage of The summer theater in Burgas.
Before the performance, there will be the official ceremony for the awarding of the "Emil Chakarov" award - to the famous singer, producer, and director of the National Musical Theater "Stefan Makedonski" - Edelina Kaneva. She started her artistic career precisely on the stage of the State Opera - Burgas, she was a soloist at the Burgas Cultural Institute for several years, she is an honored and welcome guest on our stage, she also participates in a number of concerts and performances of the Burgas Opera and during tours in the country. After the success of another Broadway musical - "Kiss me, Kate!" - a few years ago, on various stages in Bulgaria, including to a full house in the National Theater in Sofia, Edelina Kaneva invited the director of the State Opera - Burgas to stage the musical as well at the Musical Theater, where he also performed with great success.
Pleiades of talented artists worked on the creation of the production of "My Fair Lady", which will be presented on Friday again on the stage of Burgas, after the glamorous premiere at a full Summer Theater - on August 2: the distinguished director Assoc. Dr. Mr. Alexander Tekeliev, director of the Burgas Opera, the great Bulgarian conductor Ivan Kozhuharov, honorary citizen of Burgas; the eminent Bulgarian scenographer Ivan Tokadzhiev, created a number of other impressive scenographies for productions of the Burgas Opera House; the young talented costume designer Yana Dvoretska, as well as the brilliant choreographer Assoc. Dr. Anna Pampulova. The performance "My Fair Lady" was an intriguing interpretation of the popular work - according to the canons of our time, with a dose of provocation, avant-garde scenography, and impressive costumes - nearly 200 in number. The conductor of the choir, who has an important role in the stage action, is Alexander Chepanov, Ani Tokadzhieva is the author of the 3D mapping, the assistant director - is Lina Peeva, the accompanist - is Mira Iskarova.
The renowned master behind the console, Ivan Kozhuharov, stage conductor, reveals - with his typical perfectionism and sense for the essential components of quality performance, that the musicians of the orchestra play with great pleasure, achieving a real Hollywood sound, which is completely in the spirit of the musical "My lovely lady'.
Every link of the production, embedded in the fabric of the storyline thought, every note, word, phrase, breath, smile and sigh, every conducting gesture of the undisputed master behind the desk - Ivan Kozhuharov, every directorial, scenographic, choreographic, and costuming concept turned into the feast on stage - everything has the aura of Broadway glamor and at the same time - theatrical depth and emotional impact.
On August 30, at 8:00 p.m., in the Summer Theater in Primorsky Park of Burgas, it will be created again - scene after scene, like a Hollywood production from the "good old days" - a production of the highest class - under the all-encompassing directorial vision of Assoc. Dr. Alexander Tekeliev has proven many times that he is a modern thinker and innovator - with taste, depth of interpretation, and breadth of means of expression.
The line-up for the "My Fair Lady" performance on August 30 is the same as the premiere. All the performers are expected to be excellent again: the leading soloists of the "Stefan Makedonski" Musical Theater - Ilina Mihailova /soloist of the State Opera - Varna/ and Marcho Apostolov; as well as the artists of the Burgas Opera, the singers from the choir with conductor Alexander Chepanov, the musicians from the wonderful sounding orchestra - completely in Broadway style, the wonderful ballet dancers, who presented whirlwind characteristic dances, as well as sophisticated charming waltzes.
The musical, apart from the philosophical line and funny moments, is above all a story about love – denied, ridiculed, carefully hidden, but stronger than any prejudice, omnipresent.
The soprano Ilina Mihailova – in the role of the street flower seller turned into a refined lady, under the expert professional eye of the professor of phonetics Henry Higgins, exudes a natural charm, complemented by gushing talent and whirling emotion, but will also make the audience empathize with her story and loved her. Tenor Marcho Apostolov – as Henry Higgins, is fully in his inherent role of an aristocrat with manners, style, and class. The interaction with Ilina Mihailova - in the dramatic-humorous development of their relationship and her metamorphosis, is stunning and absolutely impactful - on all levels of perception. The image of Pickering seems to be "tailor-made" for the bass Petar Tiholov - he achieves a very good stage presence and gives the role the characteristic English strict finesse. Bass Diman Panchev as Doolittle is like a sweeping ball of energy, evoking uproarious laughter and sympathy, and as a bonus to the role were the wonderfully presented dances - together with the stage partners and the ballet artists. Bright and emotional is the stage presentation of the young tenor Andrey Mirchev - in the role of the young man in love with Freddie - artistic, memorable, and sweeping, like vocal possibilities. Mezzo-soprano Irina Dobrovolskaya convincingly builds the characteristic image of Mrs. Pearce, harsh in appearance, but hiding a tender, sensitive and compassionate heart.
Beautiful, colorful, and who puts real love into the roles are also: Stefka Hristozova - as the aristocratic mother of Henry Higgins, who is like a "good fairy" for the conflicting relationship of her son - a sworn bachelor, with his student Eliza Doolittle; and Shmilena Sultanova – as Mrs. Hill, the mother of Freddie Hill, a young man hopelessly in love with Eliza; and the two cute drunkards, friends of Doolittle: Harry and Jamie - Georgi Bozveliev and Miroslav Dimitrov, and Emil Peychev - as Kruchmarya, and Milen Georgiev - Severyak, Bozhidar Kmetov - Yuzhnyak, Milen Dinolov - Zapadnyak, Darina Zapryanova - Mrs. Hopkins, Kalina Popova – Queen of Transylvania, Alexander Perperiev – Ambassador.
Congratulations are due to all the artists who have mastered the dialect language to perfection, which, according to the director - Assoc. Dr. Alexander Tekeliev is a collaboration of the dialects of several regions in Bulgaria, and the characteristic speech, causing uproarious laughter from the audience, is a part of the charisma of the show. Special admiration also for the whirlwind dances, which, apart from the professionals from the ballet company, all the artists have mastered surprisingly well and perform with visible pleasure. The musicians of the orchestra are also impeccable - with concertmasters Vanya Zlateva and Hristo Belchev, for whom the performance is tantamount to a real pleasure from the wonderful score, presented masterfully and with mood. The artists from the choir are also magnificent - both in terms of sound and perfectly performed artistic tasks. And the ballet was at the height of the best Broadway traditions.
