For ballet fans, an exciting encounter with the classical masterpiece "The Sleeping Beauty" to the brilliant music of P. I. Tchaikovsky and the brilliant direction of Prof. Hikmet Mehmedov is ahead. On the evening of July 28, the Summer Theater in Burgas will be subject to the magic of ballet. The enchanting spectacle will bring an atmosphere of fairy-tale charm, style, and class to the stage of the Summer Theater in Burgas on Monday at 8:30 p.m.
Grace, worship of the classical source, high performing class, springing beauty, and enchanting movements - in sync with the music and dramaturgy - the whole brilliant symbiosis will charge those attending the spectacle with a feeling of contact with the highest sample of art. It is expected that the performers from the ballet troupe of the Burgas Opera with repetiteur Galina Kalcheva will once again unleash their maximum capacity and perform with brilliance, mood, and confidence.
The event is the next in the program of the Burgas Musical Festival "Emil Chakarov", realized for the eighteenth time by the State Opera - Burgas and the Municipality of Burgas. Visitors will witness the stage performance of the magical fairy tale, told through the means of the incomparable beauty of ballet art, in an impressive combination of music, grace, exquisite costumes, and stunning sets.
The audience will see the wonderful prima ballerina of the State Opera - Burgas, Daniela Turtumanova-Stoyanova, who takes to the stage in the image of Princess Aurora - enchanted by the evil fairy Carabosse, she falls into a deep, long-lasting sleep, and is freed from her misfortune by Prince Desire. She has repeatedly reincarnated in the image - both on the Burgas stage and on tour - with finesse, technical mastery, and personal charm. The prima ballerina presents herself with the lightness, ethereality, and aristocraticness characteristic of her interpretation of the image.
The role of the Prince is played by the soloist of the ballet troupe Teodor Tsakov, winner of the Burgas Municipality Award on the occasion of May 24 for 2024, which is awarded for high achievements in the field of culture. He made his successful debut in the role in the performance in Balchik on October 22 of this year, entering the character on the stage in Vratsa on October 24. The Burgas audience saw him for the first time in the role of Prince Désiré in October 2024, when he had the confidence and routine with which to sculpt a full-fledged, convincing, and memorable image.
The choreography of "The Sleeping Beauty" is by Marius Petipa and Prof. Hikmet Mehmedov. The staging and directing work, the work of Professor Mehmedov, is impressive with its perfectionism in artistic terms and the creative flight of thought, transporting the audience to fairy-tale dimensions, where aesthetics and exquisite expressiveness reign, of movements that embody conceptual beauty. The sets, tailored to the requirements of such a scale of the unfolding of the action, are designed by the set designer Ivan Tokadzhiev, whose style is often described as close to that of Salvador Dali. The costume designer is the costume designer Tsvetanka Petkova-Stoynova, who received the award of the Association of Choreographers for her creative work in The Sleeping Beauty. The number of costumes in the production is over eighty. They are made entirely by hand, with the women's dresses being trimmed with thousands of Swarovski crystals, each one of them glued by hand to obtain the exquisite overall vision of the fairy-tale stage costumes. Assistant director of the production is Petar Tiholov.
Rehearsal of the ballet troupe of the State Opera – Burgas – Galina Kalcheva, who was on stage at the premiere, which took place on May 4, 2017, in the role of the Lilac Fairy. On the stage on Monday, Laia Ramon will take on the role. and the charming Frenchwoman sculpts a key image in the production, built with great professionalism and personal charisma.
Bright, colorful, with aristocratic brilliance are all the images that will create the magic on the stage of the Burgas Evening on Monday. As Carabosse, the fairy who, through a spell, condemns Princess Aurora to a sleep without memory, Raya Chakarova will appear on the stage.
Impressive, in terms of technical performance, artistry, and synchronicity, will be the pair Shun Kalafune-Ilina Konstantinova, in the tandem "Blue Bird". Ilina Konstantinova, who recently received the Burgas Municipality Award for the best performing ballet dancer from Burgas at the International Ballet Competition "Sara-Nora Prima". Temperamental and bright will be Rafaela-Maria Küll as Little Red Riding Hood, and Francesco Russo - the Wolf. Yana Berduta and Kiril Filipov will perform with charm and style in the etude "Puss in Boots".
Charming, enchanting, with a truly fairy-tale aura, will be in the images of the other magical creatures: Fairy Tenderness - Rafaela-Maria Küll, Fairy Fertility - Nanako Sato, Fairy Generosity - Vasilena Todorova, Fairy Carelessness - Julia Letsi, Fairy Courage - Yana Berduta.
The male presence in the ballet "The Sleeping Beauty", filled with fairy tales, is no less colorful. The Cavaliers will be dignified and radiating aristocracy: Daniel Tichkov, Kiril Filipov, Haru Nakagawa, and Patrick Gill, who was Ilina Konstantinova's stage partner at the International Ballet Competition "Sara-Nora Prima" a few days ago, but without participating in the competition. Regal and respectful, respectively, in the role of tender loving parents, will be Maria Gabarova - Queen, and Nayden Naydenov - King Florestan. Stoyan Furtunov will also be memorable in the characteristic comic role of the courtier Catalabut.
In the staged lavish fairy tale, told through the means of ballet art, the overall brilliance of the stage on July 28 is complemented by artists from the ensemble of the Burgas Opera Ballet: Andrea Sotirova, Kalina Nedelcheva, Gergana Georgieva, Gergana Kozarova, Alexandrina Arabska, Bianca-Helen Giovanelli, Lionor Dimitrova, Polina Pasha and others.
"The Sleeping Beauty" is a large-scale ballet project, impressive with the creative scope of the directorial decisions of Prof. Hikmet Mehmedov and its complete aesthetic appearance. The performance introduces the world of an enchanted princess, noble fairies, an evil witch with a heavy misfortune, a handsome prince with a kind and brave heart, magic, an extravaganza of colors, movements, emotions, and beautiful details, sculpting a true fairy-tale reality. The ballet is based on one of the most popular fairy tales by Charles Perrault; the brilliant music, which has gained popularity as an independent sound of individual parts of the work, is by P. I. Tchaikovsky. “The Sleeping Beauty” is Tchaikovsky’s longest ballet – its original duration is about four hours. In the interpretation of Prof. Hikmet Mehmedov, the final quadrille is preserved, in which the characters from Perrault’s fairy tales dance – Puss in Boots, the Blue Bird, Little Red Riding Hood, and others.
