A spectacular performance of the operetta "Gypsy Baron" to music by Johann Strauss-son and directed by Mario Nikolov, under the baton of Deyan Pavlov, will be presented on August 2, Wednesday, at 8:30 p.m. on the stage of the Summer Theater - Burgas. Everything is in this performance - riddles, hidden treasures, fortune-tellers, prophecies, mysteries, fires, passion, dynamics, whirlwind gypsy dances, temperamental chardash, sophisticated Viennese waltz, love, doubts, unexpected revelations, stormy plot developments, and a happy ending! The Burgas audience and the guests of our seaside city will have the opportunity to attend a unique performance with wonderful performers, beautiful scenography, and costumes, as well as the dizzying direction in which every detail is in its place and in sync with the overall picture.
"Gypsy Baron" is on the program of the Burgas Music Festival "Emil Chakarov" 2023, implemented by the State Opera - Burgas and the Municipality of Burgas, and will present on Wednesday an exciting story about the threads of family memory, proof of honor, courage, intricate plot connections, and unexpected revelations, an apotheosis of strong and incorruptible feelings. There will be fire-eaters, acrobats, exuberant dances radiating passion and emotion – both of the gypsy soul and the temperamental Hungarian folk traditions, beautiful and rich costumes, and, of course, magnificent singers who, through the means of musical art, will make the audience experience a magical fairy-tale reality – against the background of the brilliant temperamental music of Johann Strauss-son. Exciting images will come to life, telling the wonderful story of love, respect for family and traditions, as well as the most important treasure - that which is hidden in the human heart. The orchestra, choir and ballet of the State Opera - Burgas take part in the common beautiful amalgam of passions, emotions, colors, dynamic twists and an exciting plot denouement.
The action of the operetta in three acts "Gypsy Baron" takes place in Hungary, at the end of the 18th century. The libretto is by Ignaz Schnitzer, based on the novella "Safi" by Mor Yokai. The direction of the production, characterized by its lavishness, dynamic stage action, attractive costumes, and special effects, is by Mario Nikolov - a guest. At the official closing of the Burgas Music Festival - on September 4 of this year, at which the concert performance, produced by the State Opera - Burgas - "Love, Champagne and Can-Can" will be presented, directed by Mario Nikolov, including the most popular and beloved arias, duets and ensemble fragments from operettas and musicals - from Offenbach to Weber. which will mark the 60th anniversary of the great Bulgarian tenor and his 40 years of creative activity. Mario Nikolov is known not only for his numerous roles on domestic and foreign stages but also as the host of the author's show about classical music and jazz "Eternal Music" on BNT.
The young soloist of the Burgas Opera, Yani Nikolov, tenor, will make his debut in the role of Sandor Barinkai, a landowner's son driven into exile. The tenor does not hide his interest in the role and it will surely become one of the favorites in his portfolio as an artist. In the role of Safi, daughter of the gypsy fortuneteller Chipra, and who actually turns out to be the daughter of the last Turkish pasha who resided during the Ottoman invasion of Hungarian lands, the wonderful soprano Nona Krastnikova will perform on the stage of the Summer Theater on August 2, for whom the role is also her debut and who cooks with particular excitement and a thorough reading of the libretto. The role of Chipra, a gypsy fortune teller, will be played by the temperamental Shmilena Sultanova, a soprano. The image of Kaloman Zhupan, a rich pig trader, will be presented by baritone Yordan Hristozov. In the role of his daughter Arsena, the gentle soprano Aglika Petrova-Ellis, whom the Burgas audience saw in the role of Adela in another operetta by Johann Strauss-son, "The Bat", will appear on the Burgas stage in November 2021 on the stage of the Burgas Opera House. The party of Count Homonai, leader of a hussar detachment, will be presented by bassist Diman Panchev. Lina Peeva will be Mirabella, the governess of the rich man's daughter Arsena. The role of her son Otokar will be performed by Milen Dinolov, the tenor. In the image of Carnero, commissioner of the Commission for the observance of local customs, husband of Mirabella, and father of Otokar, will be the bass Peter Tikholov.
The conductor of the production is Prof. Dr. Deyan Pavlov, who is a frequent and welcome guest on the stage of Burgas and at performances of the Burgas Opera on tour - in the concert performance "A Tale for Two" with soloists: Edelina Kaneva and Orlin Goranov, in the concert with music from the French classical cinema "Love Story" - with Joana Kadiyska /Nona Krastnikova/ and Yani Nikolov, in the operetta "The Beautiful Elena", with the concert "Piatzola - the last concert!", with the young bandoneonist Stoyan Karaivanov and others. Maestro Deyan Pavlov, who is also a teacher at the National Academy of Music "Prof. Pancho Vladigerov" - Sofia, will conduct the opera by Giuseppe Verdi "The Troubadour" on August 26 on the stage of the Thracian sanctuary of Begliktash in the last festival evening of the "Opera of the Sanctuary" 2023.
The scenography of "Gypsy Baron" is by the acclaimed master of stage design for opera houses Ivan Tokadzhiev, and choir conductor - Nevena Mihaylova, in a creative collaboration of continuity in the art of the young choir conductor Alexander Chepanov, the dances are the work of Galina Kalcheva, tutor of the ballet ensemble of the Burgas Opera, assistant directors of the attractive production are Lina Peeva and Petar Tiholov, concertmaster - Hristo Belchev.
The audience on Wednesday will follow with curiosity the tangled story, from trembling anticipation of the denouement to an outburst of joy, empathized with the stage characters, each of them presented in the light of their best, slightly idealized, compared to modern realities, but therefore so necessary today - to remind us that there is good, light, justice, even in fairy tales. At least to make us try to look into ourselves and bring the better part of us to the surface of our nature and behavior.
