09 december 2021 Lots of Laughter And Surprises At The Barber of Seville

After the great success of the two premiere performances of "The Barber of Seville" - in a completely new reading by the director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alexander Tekeliev, set designer and costume designer Denis Ivanov and conductor-maestro Ivan Kozhuharov - on October 8th and 26th The third performance of the comic opera by Gioachino Rossini is on Saturday, December 11, at 7 pm in the hall of the Burgas Opera. It is an indisputable truth that we live in interesting times, art, placed in an unusual situation for almost two years, has managed to prove that it is flexible, sustainable, unwavering, and invincible. Both performances of The Barber of Seville confirmed it, as did all the performances born in extreme times. The staging is already gaining the necessary momentum - in a positive sense, as the individual elements are joined together as well-worked parts of a complex machine. After the euphoria of the first premiere, the second brought smoothing of details, adjustment of the components of the stage interaction, maturity, and confidence. The "Iron Stick" of the conductor-maestro Ivan Kozhuharov will once again lead the orchestra of the State Opera - Burgas, with concertmaster Vanya Zlateva, in an unusual adventure of combining classical music and libretto with innovative and conceptual directorial reading. on the modern weekday.

Honor for the Burgas stage and audience is again the artistic stage charm and brilliant vocal preparation of the soprano Ilina Mihailova, who sang on the same stage with Jose Carreras and other world opera stars. The charismatic soprano presented herself as an artistic fury at the premiere performance of "The Barber of Seville" on October 8 - she was a fine, playful, charming, famous Rosina / in the innovative version of Assoc. Prof. Alexander Tekeliev - a passionate admirer of Marilyn Monroe /, who presented the party, characterized by extreme technical difficulty, with the ease inherent in the great masters, building the musical line with filigree precision, inner gradation and elegant mastery of his voice, all the vocal charm combined with gushing artistry and natural stage charm. Alexander Krunev will play the role of Figaro - the most famous barber in the art world - he sang at the second premiere on October 26. The role is crowning for the baritone and has been successfully presented by him over the years. But the difference for him in this production is the completely new interpretation of the character - in the style of the King of Rock Elvis Presley and hippie culture of the 70s of the XX century. Krunev does more than well in this role and builds the image with intelligent humor and self-irony. The tenor Nikolay Motsov / guest / appears again on the stage of the Burgas Opera in the image of Count Almaviva, who presented himself brilliantly at both premieres - on October 8th and 26th. The artist presents "tamed" emotion and works out the details. His humorous image is enriched with various nuances and whims, with intriguing versions of the performances in the individual stage moments. The tenor presents an intriguingly constructed image - in an unusual but extremely slow role, passing through different states of mind.

The bassist Kostadin Mechkov is again in the delicate image of Dr. Bartolo - with guild rigid understandings and insidious goals towards the beautiful Rosina. The soloist of the Burgas Opera presented himself convincingly - both as an artistic emotion and as a vocal construction of the role of both premiere performances. Stable in vocals and provoking laughter with brilliantly defended stage etudes is the bass Diman Panchev / he also sang at both premieres / - as music teacher Don Basilio, who harnesses all sorts of intriguing schemes of slanderous nature in the plot development. Mezzo-soprano Kalina Popova debuted in the role of housekeeper Berta, who has an affinity for wine and men ... and one more thing. The baritone Branimir Nedkov, who made a successful debut at the second premiere in October, is once again playing Fiorello and the Officer. The baritone is fresh and elicits sincere smiles - both as a "hippie" in the style of the 70's - Fiorello, and as a strict guardian of order.

The conductor of the choir is Nevena Mihaiyova. The choir performs, as always, at a height - both as a whole sound and as a precise representation of individual images - each of the ensemble has an intriguing individual artistic task, woven into the overall directorial design and mise-en-scène. Assistant directors of the production are Lina Peeva and Petar Tiholov, prompter - Dora Fartunova, who is also responsible for the props - there will be the most surprises for the audience. The subtitles are the work of Srebrina Slavova, longtime soloist of the Burgas Opera, accompanists are Iliana Todorova and Raina Popova, piano recitatives during the performance are performed by Mira Iskarova.

Soloists, orchestra, and choir are now perfectly fused parts of an indivisible whole. Every detail of the production is in its place in the inextricably linked component, combining immortal music, fun libretto, dizzying directorial decisions, provoking the senses and mind scenography, stunning costumes - sustained in the style of the 70s of the XX century, great overall sound and summary. the vision of the show, in the style of social satire. The audience is motivated to empathize with art, to move away from avalanches of anxiety, to purify themselves - through healthy laughter and satirical presentation of "living life" as we are all immersed - with its inherent absurdities and challenges. On Saturday night, December 11, a bouquet of smiles and a high degree of mood are guaranteed with the modern ultra-funny treatment with elements of social satire of The Barber of Seville. The creative and artistic team is first class, the scenography and costumes are colorful, innovative, captivating the senses, and the music of Gioachino Rossini - ingenious and always up to date! There will again be a cascade of smiles in The Barber of Seville - and semiotic elements that bring to the surface various associative connections, and logically subordinate elements in the scenographic-directorial reading, and philosophy - but presented casually and with finesse and a pinch of the lesson, and a dose of bitter pill from reality ... There will also be candid references to modern "prose" - masks, disinfectants, vaccines, RHI, Mossad, FBI, SANS, spa, Qatar Airlines, terrorist threats, even Playboy magazine ... A modern tale will be told through the means of social satire - very funny, but also very instructive, with a bitter aftertaste of current findings. It is amazing how the libretto (not a word has been changed from the original text) synchronizes with today's messages. And that is why art proves that it could be a successful socio-psychological experiment - to turn the mirror of messages from outside to ourselves and to meet the directions of different historical times - in hours of musical-scenic timelessness ...
