27 june 2024 The Operetta "WIENER BLUT" Opens Тhe Burgas Music Festival
The cheerful and positive-messaging music of Johann Strauss-son will be heard on Tuesday, July 2, at 8:30 p.m. on the Summer Theater - Burgas stage in "Vienna Blood". The story, which will be told through the means of attractive and captivating operetta art, is a classic one - infidelity, a series of intrigues, funny divergences, plot twists, situations filled with banter and fresh humor, and of course - a magnificence of musical and visual messages. Apart from the glamorous and universally loved music of Strauss, which is not only popular sounding, but also brings finesse, the attitude of seizing the joys in life and turning them into permanent happiness, the production of "Vienna Blood" is also attractive as a stage design and costumes - they will transport the audience to an aristocratic ball in a mansion in Vienna in the middle of the 19th century. The audience will undoubtedly immerse themselves in the sophisticated atmosphere of Viennese society - with pompous balls, spicy intrigues, and an incomparable taste for life's pleasures.
It is a well-known fact that the art of operetta is complex and requires complex qualities from singers - not only vocal capabilities, but also adequate behavior on stage, artistry, choreographic skills, and... a pinch of the invisible substance without which no one can be born a quality performance - undeniable talent and desire to create art.
An additional bonus for the audience is the fact that the performance is performed in Bulgarian. The performance is full of substance, padded with emotion, and professionally staged - from every point of view.
Behind the conductor's desk in the attractive performance on July 2 is maestro Deyan Pavlov /guest/, who also conducts "Gypsy Baron", "Love Story", and "A Tale for Two", as well as other performances and concerts of the Burgas Opera, as always is warmly received - both by the audience and by the orchestra players and artists themselves. "The opera by Schraussin is the epitome of Viennese taste and refined manners – like quality champagne, which will fill the Opera with an inimitable atmosphere. It is a pleasure for me to work with my colleagues from the Burgas Opera, I wish everyone brilliant success on Tuesday!", he says for the maestro Pavlov performance.
The Burgas audience welcomed the debut of the soprano Nona Krastnikova and the tenor Yani Nikolov in the roles of Countess and Count Zidlau at the performance in March in the full hall of the Burgas Opera. "Gypsy Baron" - with a full Summer Theater during the Burgas Music Festival "Emil Chakarov" 2023 in August, and with the attractive title, also directed by Mario Nikolov, the new Season 2023/2024 was opened in the Opera hall at the beginning in October 2023. They were a brilliant stage tandem in "Vienna Blood" as well. It is expected that at the performance on July 2nd in the Summer Theater they will be able to create the unique vital atmosphere of the operetta, together with their colleagues - soloists, the orchestra, chorus, and ballet of the Burgas Opera.
In addition to stage glamor and sensational costumes and effects, the "Blood of Vienna" performance also guarantees a first-class artistic cast. Maria Tsvetkova-Madjarova - as the coquette and a professional dancer in Vienna's "Kertnertheater" Franzi Cagnari, who is bored with social balls and the role of the mistress, and the baritone Yordan Hristozov - as Prince Ipsheim-Hindelbach - Prime Minister of Roy Greitz Schleitz.
The other wonderful stage couple will be in the person of the soprano Shmilena Sultanova - the dressmaker Pepi, who dreams of dancing on stage and, as is customary in an operetta plot, dreams come true and becomes the center of attention at the sophisticated ball in the estate of Count Bitovsky; and the young talented tenor Stoyan Buyukliev /guest/. He made his debut as Pepi's lover Josef, Baldwin Zedlau's valet, who handwrites the love letter from the count to his beloved, unaware of the situation, of course. Stoyan Buyukliev enters with a flying start in the image, coping extremely successfully - both as a performance and as an artistic presence. Amusing and fitting into the overall glamorous picture of aristocracy and snobbish mannerisms befitting members of high society and the middle class aspiring to greater wealth and a more lavish lifestyle, "Viennese Blood" will also include the bass Petar Tiholov – as Kagler, Franciska Kanyari's father; the mezzo-soprano Kalina Popova - as the dressmaker of the ladies from Vienna, who pretends to be French, but in fact, acquaintances are aware that she only lived in the "capital of fashion" - Paris for two years, and Alexander Perperiev - as the host of the ball - Prince Bitovsky.
The direction of the production, captivating with its aristocratic charm, dynamism, and wonderful costumes, fully maintained in the style of the era, is by Mario Nikolov, who is known not only for his numerous roles on native and foreign stages but also as the author and presenter of the show for classical music and jazz "Timeless Music" on BNT. Mario Nikolov is the winner of the prestigious "Emil Chakerov" award 2023. The scenography of the production is by Ivan Tokajiev - an emblematic name in the field of musical and performing arts, who was recently also the scenographer of the brilliant premiere of the ballet "Corsair" on the stage of the Opera House. The costume designer is another no less titled artist who, unfortunately, is no longer with us - Tsvetanka Stoynova. The conductor of the artists from the choir is Alexander Chepanov, the dances are the work of Galina Kalcheva, the concertmaster is Hristo Belchev, the assistant director is Lina Peeva, the tutor of the ballet ensemble is Marina Zmeeva-Markova.
In the sumptuous spectacle with a life-affirming sound - so necessary in the simple modern realities, the artistic ensembles of the orchestra, choir and ballet of the State Opera - Burgas take part.
"This is one of Johann Strauss-son's finest operettas. It is popular all over the world and performed in all the major opera houses of the world. It represents the character of the Viennese in the era in which the composer lived and worked. Wine, women, songs! This is an incredible music that characterizes Viennese manners!" says director Mario Nikolov in an interview for BNR - Burgas on the occasion of a previous performance. "Blood of Vienna" is not familiar to the general public, but it will certainly appeal to operetta lovers because of the work's extremely popular waltzes, polkas, and ensembles. The music is leisurely, the plot is very interesting, there are conflicts and many denouements and at the end, like any good operetta, things end with a happy ending. The audience likes this performance, it premiered in 2017 on the stage of the Summer Theater", Mario Nikolov also says.
On Tuesday, the audience will again have the opportunity to experience a real musical celebration. The music of Schraussin will "spill" on Tuesday evening in the Summer Theater in Primorski Park of Burgas, garnishing the atmosphere with finesse, class, and refined manners and adding a wonderful touch of aristocracy and class.
