"Pilate's Dream" to the music of the great Bulgarian composer
popular and film music Stefan Dimitrov has become a landmark event
in the cultural life of Bulgaria. For the first time in decades, he appeared and was
stage presented major ballet titles from modern Bulgarian
composer.
Although it was inspired by Mikhail Bulgakov's novel "The Master and
Margarita", the original interpretation of Stefan Dimitrov in "The Dream of
Pilate” does not rely on the text, but instead skillfully captures the surreal
atmosphere and crystallizes the essential elements of the narrative. The titles of
the two acts – “Lux Aeterna” (Eternal Light) and “Misericordia Pro
Nobis" (Mercy for us) - invite associations with other literary ones
classics such as Goethe's Faust for example, and place the work in context
of the European musical heritage. But Dimitrov's music is something
more than that – she brilliantly translates Bulgakov's spiritual vision of
the language of our modern world and gives a fresh, melodic interpretation of
the various ideas of good and evil, light and dark, and the roots of these
forces.
Spectacular, lavish, exquisite, elegant, captivating, earth-shattering,
genius...miracle... These are just some of the superlatives that the lucky ones use
those present at the performances of "Pilate's Dream" describe what they saw and
the experience. The scenery and the imagination-fueling over 300 costumes
by Pavol Juras (Slovakia), the libretto by Yana Temiz (Russia, Turkey) and
the valuable help of the choreographer Stanislav Fečo (Czech Republic) helped the world
the famous choreographer Vasily Medvedev turned the symphonic
a work by Stefan Dimitrov in a ball that amazes the senses
positive energy, in a poem about love.
Penetrated love scenes, biblical plots, tenderness, and cruelty
interweave in "Pilate's Dream" with modern directorial and choreographic
decisions and quality music under the baton of the conductor Vladimir Boshnakov.
Such a performance has not been held for more than 40 years - since the time of "The Goat
Horn" by Krasimir Kyurcchiyski - connoisseurs are categorical. Approximately
that's how long it matured in the creative consciousness of Stefan Dimitrov and
the idea of writing a ballet inspired by The Master and Margarita.
Four decades ago, the composer read Bulgakov's novel, before
In 20 years the plot begins to mature, and in four years it takes
the writing. To reach the well-deserved triumph with a completely redesigned
and added music. "Pilate's Dream" received a huge public response,
and enjoys unceasing interest, there are dozens of proposals to present
on various stages and festivals in Bulgaria and abroad.
