17 october 2023 The "Stoyan Popov" 2023 Competition Was Officially Opened

This evening at 6 p.m. the II NATIONAL COMPETITION FOR OPERA SINGERS "STOYAN POPOV" with international participation was officially launched in the lobby of the Burgas State Opera.
The Director of the Burgas Opera - Prof. Dr. Alexander Tekeliev, Alexander Tekeliev, announced the beginning of the Second National Competition with international participation in the name of the world-famous baritone Stoyan Popov and specified that the idea was to hold the competition every two years, but this year is exception, due to the fact that we are celebrating the 90th anniversary of the Maestro's birth.
In connection with the anniversary, the Burgas Opera has prepared a photo exhibition "90 years of Stoyan Popov", which was opened this evening and will be available in the lobby of the Opera - for anyone who is interested in the rich career of the great Bulgarian opera singer.
The chairman of the jury - another world singer - Kaludi Kaludov, drew the lot, as the letter "H" fell, i.e. tomorrow the participants will appear in this order - from names with the letter "H" onwards.
Prof. Tekeliev congratulated all the participants and wished them success, adding that he was glad to see among them singers who also appeared at last year's edition of the competition. The director of the Burgas Opera added that he is glad that there are many singers from China among the candidates, as traditionally they are strong competitors.
The event was honored by Diana Savateva, Deputy Mayor of the Department of Culture, Tourism and Sport at Burgas Municipality.
The official opening of the competition and the exhibition was also attended by Prof. Niko Isakov, baritone, dean of the Vocal Faculty at the National Academy of Music "Prof. Pancho Vladigerov" - Sofia, and Prof. Dr. Toni Shekerdzieva-Nowak - rector of AMTI "Prof. Asen Diamandiev" - Plovdiv, opera singer and vocal pedagogue - members of the authoritative jury, which, together with Kaludi Kaludov, Associate Professor Alexander Tekeliev, Prof. Dr. Grigor Palikarov Grigor Palikarov - conductor, chief artistic director of the Symphony Orchestra - Pazardzhik, and Ognian Draganoff - director of the State Opera - Stara Zagora, will evaluate the participants in the competition play in the two rounds.
All participants in the competition were presented with luxurious catalogs with photos and information about the significant roles of the world baritone Stoyan Popov.
The first round of the Second National Competition for Young Opera Singers with International Participation "Stoyan Popov" is tomorrow, Wednesday, October 18, at 10 a.m., in the Opera Hall.
The second round is on October 19, Thursday, at 12 noon, also in the hall of the Burgas Cultural Institute.

Entrance to both tours is free, and the audience will have the opportunity to follow the competition program from the balcony of the Opera Hall.
