26 may 2021 The Broadway Musical "Kiss Me, Kate!" Аgain On the Burgas Stage
One of the most popular Broadway musicals - "Kiss Me, Kate!" Will be played again in Burgas - on Friday, May 28, at 19:00 in the hall of the Burgas Opera. After several successful performances, the production has already formed its mature appearance. The entire ensemble of the Burgas Opera takes part in the large-scale musical. The charge of the production, which was born and upgraded by the creators of the musical, unfolds entirely in the stage action, filling with mood and carrying messages - about the weight of eternal values, about the choices of the heart, about truly valuable things that have a place and role in life.
The musical "Kiss Me, Kate!" Is based on music by the American composer Cole Porter and is based on Shakespeare's comedy "Taming the Shrew". The title is placed on the Bulgarian stage for the first time - with officially purchased copyrights. The memorable premiere was on September 4, 2019, and the performance raised the audience in Sofia at the National Theater "Ivan Vazov" - on November 19, 2019, as well as the audience in Plovdiv and Gorna Oryahovitsa.
"Kiss me, Kate!" provides the audience with the opportunity to experience the exciting thread and fun twists in the stage action and to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of a modern fairy tale, which everyone on stage tells - through the ways of music and stage art. The whole artistic ensemble is in creative synchrony with the orchestras, recreating the wonderful musical score, under the baton of conductor Tsanislav Petkov. There is an original reference to the spirit of Shakespeare, updated through the means of the American musical, and the complex sense of symbiosis between libretto, music, and successful stage reproduction of images. And the "stubborn" - completely according to Shakespeare's plot, is tamed, because this is the logic of life and relationships. And the messages of the musical, in which two plot lines are intertwined, as "theater within theater", are received unobtrusively - as an intellectual joke.
The masterful directing of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alexander Tekeliev has updated references while adhering to the canons of the classical musical. The original scenography with an avant-garde vision is by Denis Ivanov, who is also the creator of the costumes, made with a romantic touch and artistic flair. The choreography - the ballet ensemble is an integral part of the stage action, is by Zhelka Tabakova. Important for the construction of the overall vision of the performance is the role of the assistant directors Lina Peeva and Petar Tiholov, who the audience will see on the stage - in the image of Senator Howell. The conductor of the choir is Nevena Mihaylova, concertmaster - Yordan Kovachev.
The plot of "Kiss Me, Kate!" Intertwines two main lines - one, telling the eternally funny and instructive story of "Taming the Shrew", in which the action takes place in the time of Shakespeare, and the other - in the middle of last, XX century. The film star with a stubborn character Lily Vanessi / Katerina - in the plotline of "Taming the Shrew", will be the soprano Shmilena Sultanova. She will sing in stage tandem with the soloist of the National Musical Theater - tenor Marcho Apostolov, who will perform in the role of Fred Graham / Petruchio. Maria Tsvetkova-Madzharova, soprano, will play the wayward flirt Lois Lane / Bianca. Branimir Nedkov, gifted with diverse talents, will play the role of Bill Cullen / Lucenzio and will show not only singing but also ballet skills on stage. In the other, also important for the plot development roles will be: in the image of the strict Harry Trevor / Baptist/father of the "stubborn" Katerina / will present the bass Vesselin Hristov, the wardrobe of the star Lina Vanessa - Hetty will be the charming Darina Zapryanova, gifted with versatile talents Paul, who is also preparing a musical surprise for the audience - baritone Yordan Hristozov. The funny roles with a criminal-comic flavor of the First and Second Gangsters are played by the bassist Diman Panchev and the tenor Miroslav Dimitrov. Peter Tikholov will present himself in the image of the senator - sponsor of the theatrical performance and candidate for the hand of the movie star Lily Vanessi - Mr. Harrison Howell. In the roles of Bianca's fans / in the plotline of "Taming the Shrew" / will be: Hortensio - Lyubomir Todorov, Gremio - Milen Dinolov, Ralph - Alexander Perperiev. Valyu Totev enters the image of the porter.
