On Valentine's Day and Wine - February 1️4, the State Opera - Burgas has prepared an exquisite musical gift for its fans - the concert "Edith Piaf - The Song of Love", which will be in the lobby of the Opera - exactly on Valentine's Day from 1️9 o'clock.
The fluids of love, beautiful music, refined worldview and perception of reality, as well as contact with favorite melodies that have gained worldwide popularity, will be guaranteed in the Opera Hall on Friday evening. The concert performance will alternate nostalgic moods and ecstatic states of mind, which accompany the characteristic metamorphoses of love - dreamed of, denied, awaited, desired, essential.
In August 2024 the exciting concert program with songs from the work of the legendary French chanson singer Edith Piaf was presented on the crowded open stage of the St. Anastasia Church. We expect the audience to once again empathize with the messages of the timeless art that touches the senses and caresses the spiritual spaces.
The music of the most famous chansonnier will be presented - with tangible love and adoration for her work, by the two soloists of the State Opera - Burgas - Maria Tsvetkova-Madzharova and Nona Krastnikova, under the piano accompaniment of the distinguished conductor Stratsimir Pavlov /guest/, who is also the author of the arrangements. He conducted the final concert "Love, Champagne and Can-Can" directed by Mario Nikolov - at the Burgas Music Festival "Emil Chakarov" 2023 on the stage of the Summer Theater in Burgas. A famous conductor, composer, arranger, and instrumentalist, Maestro Pavlov has remarkable experience behind the stage in such programs. He was awarded the “Most Talented Young Author” award by the Union of Bulgarian Composers. Since 1996, he has lived and worked in the USA. During this period, he has been awarded numerous awards from prestigious American competitions. Since 2002, he has been the music director and conductor of the Opera Theater in Little Rock, Arkansas. He has conducted over 40 titles /operas, musicals,s and show programs/. He leads summer academies for young opera singers. He has performed at Carnegie Hall – New York, Seattle – Washington, Los Angeles – California, etc. In 2008, he returned to Bulgaria and in the short time since then has filled his biography with many more creative appearances.
The concert program on February 14 will also feature tenor Milen Dinolov, who will perform songs from the work of another musical icon from the recent past – Charles Aznavour, whose life and professional path intertwined with that of Edith Piaf. For the moment, the public focus of attention is once again directed at the dramatic life path of the great French singer of Armenian origin – with the wonderful film “Mr. Aznavour”, which continues to be a hit in movie theaters.
Here is what soprano Maria Tsvetkova-Madzharova says about the opportunity to perform again the unforgettable chansons of a world music icon who carries an inimitable charisma, and whose songs continue to enter the soul spaces in an incomparable way - they warm, make us feel, sadden, purify, delight, make us think...

"Is it possible to imagine that a petite woman, skinny, with loose hair, and smeared makeup, neglecting her appearance and clothing, could be a superstar. Yes. It is possible, and this is Edith Piaf - adored, followed, and imitated, to this day. A muse of contemporary musicians, singers, composers, and directors. The charisma and magic that she left behind in time cannot yet be explained. The brightest representative of the chanson genre, or the greatest chansonette." - Maria Tsvetkova-Madzharova.
The other soloist, who together with Maria-Tsvetkova Madzharova will present the work of Edith Piaf at the concert on Friday – Nona Krastnikova, is also on a romantic wave before the event:
“They say that Edith Piaf danced the waltz of lovers with perseverance and madness, always being the leader on the dance floor of life. I am not like that, but I feel this power with pleasure while singing her music. Do you feel this fire as an audience? Come and feel it…”
With Maria Tsvetkova-Madzharova, soprano Nona Krastnikova has many successful musical and stage projects, and with Stratsimir Pavlov they will be on the same stage for the second time /except in the operetta gala “Love, Champagne and Can-Can”, when he was behind the conductor’s podium.
For its loyal fans, the State Opera – Burgas has prepared a special surprise – after the end of the concert, in the lobby of the Opera House, there will be an opportunity to toast with a glass of wine.
The concert, dedicated to love and wine, will also feature other musical surprises… Treat yourself to a warming festive emotion on Valentine’s Day, wine, and the adoration of the tenderness of feelings – on a cold February evening, with the concert performance “Edith Piaf – The Song of Love” in the lobby of the Burgas Opera!
