The mysticism of Strandzha Mountain, combined with the eternal messages of classical works, will once again be a prerequisite for magical unforgettable experiences.

"RIGOLLETTO" - AUGUST 10, 8:30 PM

The timeless story of seduction, false hopes, insidiousness, curses, and an ominous denouement woven into the libretto of one of Giuseppe Verdi's most famous and beloved operas, Rigoletto, will come to life for the first time on the stage of the Thracian sanctuary of Begliktash on August 10 from 8:30 p.m. – under the star dome of Strandzha Mountain. The Verdi masterpiece will be the first event of the Fifth "Opera of the Sanctuary" festival, successfully implemented by the State Opera - Burgas and the Municipality of Primorsko.

Under the baton of Prof. Dr. Grigor Palikarov. will present the musical-stage story of the hunchbacked jester Rigoletto, the only joy in his simple life – his beautiful daughter Gilda, of the conscience-driven Herzog, a unifying image of meanness, as well as of all the characters of the tragic tale of false trust.

The characters of one of Verdi's most famous operas, to which the composer himself did not hide his biases, will give the audience diverse experiences - from admiration for the power of pure love, destroyed by soullessness, to the tragic hopelessness of trampled naive impulses. Those present at the open scene of the Thracian wedding ceremony will be warmed and emotionally shaken by the sad plot. It is no coincidence that the great Italian composer stated that if he had to save only one of his operas, he would choose Rigoletto. The in-depth directorial reading of Associate Professor Dr. Alexander Tekeliev, reading the codes of the human psyche, proves the power and message of these words.

The highly emotional story will be told by a magnificent creative and artistic cast through syncretic operatic art. The cast is remarkable and will recreate the exciting story in an inimitable way!

The controversial image of the jester Rigoletto will be recreated by the remarkable baritone Marjan Jovanoski, soloist of the National Opera of North Macedonia and the State Opera - Burgas. In the role of Gilda on Wednesday, the charismatic soprano Ilina Mihailova /guest/, soloist of the State Opera - Varna and the National Music Theater "Stefan Macedonian". She will be reincarnated - with professionalism, a flair for character building, and vocal prowess, as the naïve girl living in her little dream world, cut off from reality. Encountering a skilled seducer, in the person of the Duke, she falls into his demonic trap, which heralds her certain doom.

In the will of the Duke of Mantua, the self-satisfied unscrupulous seducer and bon vivant, enters the tenor Valery Georgiev, soloist of the State Opera - Varna and State Opera - Burgas. The Duke's iconic Aria "La donna e mobile" in his rousing performance is sure to be rapturously received by the audience. Bass Delyan Slavov will be respectable - both vocally and as a stage presence, in the role of the hired killer Sparafuchile, for whom the value of human life is nothing compared to a few silver coins. Bright, colorful, beautiful, dizzying, charming, and captivating the senses will be the lovely mezzo-soprano Ioana Cadijska in the role of Madalena, Sparafuccile's sister, who, apart from frivolity, hides goodness and compassion in her heart. Impressive and fully integrated with the overall sound of the show on stage on Wednesday will be the bass Kostadin Mechkov - as Count Monterone, who utters a curse striking those responsible for his father's pain; mezzo-soprano Kalina Popova – impactful and feminine as Giovanna, Gilda's intimate maid; the soprano Nona Krastnikova and the bass Petar Tiholov - aristocratic in the images of Countess and Count Ceprano; the baritone Yordan Hristozov – as the courtier Marulo, who lives in the intriguing world of high society; the tenor Lyubomir Todorov – in the role of Mateo Borsa, also part of the noble retinue; the soprano Stefka Hristozova – as Page.

The director of the production, adapted for the open stage in Begliktash, is Alexander Tekeliyev, the choir conductor - is Alexander Chepanov, the choreography is by Galina Kalcheva, the assistant directors of the production by Lina Peeva and Petar Tiholov, ballet tutor - Marina Zmeeva-Markova. AIDA" – AUGUST 17, 8:30 PM

One of the most impressive productions of the State Opera - Burgas - "Aida" by Giuseppe Verdi, in the version directed by Prof. Pavel Gerdzhikov, will give unforgettable moments of contact with the popular opera to fans of classical music - 17 August from 20:30 on the mystical stage of the Thracian megalithic complex Begliktash - the second event of the festival "Opera of the Sanctuary" 2024, successfully realized by the State Opera - Burgas and the Municipality of Primorsko.

The performance, which will recreate the atmosphere of ancient Egypt, will unfold its scenic beauty and impact under the masterful baton of Prof. Dr. Grigor Palikarov, with a magnificent artistic cast.

In Aida's role, the international audience on the stage of Begliktash will have the pleasure of seeing and hearing the remarkable lyric-dramatic soprano Yoana Zhelezcheva. Her powerful and low-pitched voice, which, however, also has gentle lyrical parameters, as well as exceptional spiritual power and effectiveness, contributes to the overall construction of the image of the enslaved Ethiopian princess. Ioana Zhelezcheva's Aida is marked by softness and strength at the same time, with an inner longing for love and an outer expression of the impossibility of it being realized, due to the tragic force of the circumstances.

In the role of the rival for the heart of Radames - the powerful pharaoh's daughter Amneris, the audience will have the privilege of enjoying the magnificent mezzo-soprano Daniela Dyakova, who impresses not only with her charismatic appearance but also with her wonderful vocal abilities and strong stage presence. She will weave her feminine radiance and beautiful timbre into the construction of the princess torn by doubt and jealousy, who harbors in her heart simultaneously passion, devotion, cruelty, revenge, and a typically feminine evil that is devastating to her essence. Despair, and impatience with the emotional loss of the beloved man, intertwined with sincere suffering and pain in her purely human dimensions, give a special color to the image of Amneris.

On the stage under the stars of Begliktash on August 17, the wonderful tenor Valery Georgiev will appear - in the role of Radames, an Egyptian noble warrior, for whose love the beautiful Aida and Amneris are fighting - each with their own methods and emotional strength. The tenor is known for the rich range of his voice with the so-called Rossini heights that very few tenors in the world possess. The image of Radames is characterized by his heartfelt yearnings, contrary to logic and pragmatic choices, which are subordinated to his love for the Ethiopian captive Aida. The closing scene of the living Aida and Radames' taunting remains in the mind for a long time with the drama of the musical statement, characterized by a muffled plaintive tone. In it, however, it is not so much the despair of imminent death that stands out, but rather sounds like the apotheosis of love and as one of the brightest symbols of immortality, embodied in the merging souls of two lovers, although doomed - here, in the earthly dimensions.

The role of the Ethiopian king Amonasro is played by baritone Maryan Jovanoski, a soloist of the National Opera of the Republic of North Macedonia and State Opera - Burgas, who is impressive in terms of voice and stage presence. The illustrious baritone gives the image a unique suggestiveness and dignity, by adhering to the force of the law, regardless of the unbearable grief caused to his daughter Amneris.

In the image of the high Egyptian priest Ramfis, the bass Delyan Slavov enters - majestic and respectful. Bass Kostadin Mechkov will perform as Pharaoh of Egypt, the Priestess will be soprano Nona Krastnikova, Herald - -tenor Milen Dinolov.

In the performance of "Aida", the choir under the direction of Alexander Chepanov is not only the background of the stage action but also an equal participant in the dramatic thread of the events. Prof. Mehmedov's choreography, performed by the ballet of the Burgas Opera House, is a wonderful thematic entry. The designer of the sets, recreating the majestic and respectful environment in Egypt, with emblematic artifacts, is the work of the artist Chavdar Chomakov, the choreography, which is also in sync with the ancient Egyptian culture and specifics of costumes and movements, is the work of Prof. Hikmet Mehmedov.

The production of the State Opera - Burgas of one of the most famous works of Giuseppe Verdi - "Aida", a monumental musical work, with large-scale sound and scenography, is an event that lives a long stage life, reincarnating each time in different shades of performing art, as an individual singing naturalist. "Aida" is characterized by a polyphonic effect - from the masterful combination of the large-scale and artistic suggestions of Verdi's music. Each performance of one of the most staged operas in the world achieves what is the meaning of art – communication at the highest level between the audience and the sculptors of the imposing production – soloists, chorus, orchestra, and conductor. They interweave mastery and inspiration in the common pursuit of sculpting memorable images and leave viewers with a sense of wholeness, completion, and emotional cohesion, imprinting on the mind and memory of the musical suggestion.

The director of the production, adapted for the open stage in Begliktash, is Alexander Tekeliyev, the choir conductor - is Alexander Chepanov, the choreography is by Galina Kalcheva, the assistant directors of the production are Lina Peeva and Petar Tiholov, ballet tutor - Marina Zmeeva-Markova. The orchestra, choir, and ballet of the State Opera-Burgas take part in the large-scale attractive spectacle.

CARMEN" - AUGUST 24, 8:30 PM

On August 24 at 20:30 on the open stage of the Thracian sanctuary of Begliktash, under the baton of maestro Sunai Muratov, the audience will be allowed to relive the eternal story of a suddenly ignited passion, repulsion, emotional rehabilitation, a collision of two worlds that irresistibly attracted, and devastating feelings destroy them - with the opera "Carmen" by Georges Bizet. The performance will be the last of the "Opera At The Sanctuary" festival 2024, carried out for the fifth year by the State Opera - Burgas and the Municipality of Primorsko. The iconic opera by Bizet was also staged in the previous two years on the Begliktash stage, with tickets for the performances selling out weeks in advance.

The dramatic plot of one of the world's most popular operas always sounds relevant. Regardless of the era in which they live, people invariably carry identical feelings and aspirations, and their relationships are based on universal human norms that are not subject to time. The opera has become iconic - not only because of Georges Bizet's beautiful music, characterized by an exquisite melodic line, as well as musical motifs that have gained popularity in their own right but also because of the story, which continues to excite and evoke diverse feelings. On August 24, the famous mezzo-soprano Daniela Dyakova will be in a stage partnership with the tenor Daniel Damyanov, soloist of the Sofia Opera and Ballet and State Opera - Burgas, who will take on the role of Don Jose - torn by internal contradictions, wandering between the sweeping passion for Carmen and the dictates of tradition.

Maestro Sunay Muratov began his professional musical career as an orchestra conductor even before graduating from the Academy of Music, he was deputy conductor of the Madrigal Choir, performed as a conductor with the orchestras of Vidin, Pleven, Burgas, Varna, and Sofia, participated in festivals and made successful tours in countries such as Germany, Austria, France, and Spain. From 1995 to 1997, he was the conductor of the orchestra of the State Opera - Burgas. In 1996, he was a guest conductor at the Sofia Opera and Ballet and worked with Boris Hinchev. From 1997 to 2000, he was the conductor and choirmaster of the orchestra of the Varna State Opera and Ballet. During the same period, he was also the music director. Sunay Muratov has been working at the General Directorate of the State Opera and Ballet in Ankara since the end of 1999 as an orchestra and choir conductor. He is currently the conductor of the Ankara State Opera and Ballet and the general music director of the General Directorate of the State Opera and Ballet. Lecturer at the State Conservatory of Hacettepe University.

Daniela Dyakova, on whose temperament the role of Carmen impresses magnificently, will once again sweep the open stage in Begliktash – a real fury, an amalgam of passion and an irresistible urge for inner freedom, which for her is above love, affection, even the instinct for life. The talented, charismatic baritone Valery Turmanov will be the matador Escamilio, who wins Carmen's feelings and pushes Don Jose to black jealousy with a tragic outcome.
