09 july 2024 "Tosca" With An Outstanding Artistic Cast On Thursday

On July 11, at 8:30 p.m., on the stage of the Summer Theater in Primorsky Park in Burgas, the tragic story of a disastrous passion, fateful love, shocking feelings, beautiful music, and a tragic ending will be told with the performance of the musical-dramatic masterpiece by Giacomo Puccini "Tosca ". On Tuesday, the outdoor stage will feature a superb solo ensemble, first-rate conductor, orchestra, and choir. The event is the second appearance in the program of the Burgas Music Festival "Emil Chakarov" 2024, successfully realized for the seventeenth time in a row by the State Opera - Burgas and the Municipality of Burgas. This year, the world cultural community celebrates the 100th anniversary of the death of the genius Italian composer Giacomo Puccini. The Burgas Cultural Institute celebrated it with a large-scale "Viva Puccini" gala in April in the Opera hall, under the baton of Dimitar Kosev, chief conductor of the State Opera-Ruse. On July 11, another significant event is coming up under the sign of this anniversary.

On the stage of the Summer Theater on July 11, Thursday, beautiful music will sound, through which dramatic passions will be presented, building the tragic plot of "Tosca" in - with the antagonistic manifestations of love, with the power of pure feelings, opposing treachery and insidious plans.

Under the conductorship of Ivan Kojuharov, an honorary citizen of Burgas, a sad story with a fatal ending will be told - an apotheosis of true feelings and undying dignity. The eminent Bulgarian conductor with a worldwide career crafts - expertly, with great dedication and uncompromising professionalism, every detail of the astonishing Puccini score, to present a complete musical-artistic-aesthetic product - with soul and charge. The orchestra under his baton is magnificently sounding, with remarkably constructed dynamics following the logic of the dramaturgical line, and a tangible attitude to the messages of Puccini's astonishing music.

The Tosca soloists will be exceptional, weaving the emotional power of their voices into a single stream of affecting beauty. The choir and the orchestra will complement the overall suggestion of tragic doom - through brilliantly built dynamics and meaningful emotional amplitudes. The beautiful melody of Puccini's music will be "unfolded" – phrase by phrase, organically weaving the messages of the dramatic story with a fatal finale. The wave of feelings in the performance passes both smoothly and in spurts following the logical line, reaching the attendees - through the energy invested in the sound. The choir - both on stage and behind the curtain, sounds completely merged with the overall dramatic line, sculpting the monolithic appearance of the story, which, although it takes place within a few days, carries all the nuances of deep psychology.

In the role of the beautiful, proud, and assertive prima donna Floria Toska, on July 11, the Burgas audience and guests of the city will have the pleasure of seeing and hearing the exceptional lyrical-dramatic soprano Yoana Zhelezcheva. Tosca is a new role for the magnificent soprano - after her brilliant debut in December 2022, on the stage of the Burgas Opera, she was irresistible, as always, in her new artistic role during last year's Burgas Music Festival "Emil Chakarov" , also under the baton of Ivan Kozhuharov. She managed to breathe life and emotional power into the emblematic female image of opera, crowned for world premieres such as Maria Callas and Raina Kabaivanska, and on the stage of Burgas. by Zhelezcheva, who seems to open new spaces with her inimitable timbre, and paints in them through the nuanced manifestations of her voice. The brilliant soprano will once again prove her class - as a bright stage presence, an emotional fusion with the image, transformed through the entire depth of her artistic essence, through the brilliantly built nuances of the dramatic character, with the entire spectrum of feelings - from tender longing to the tragedy of fatal choice. Filigree dynamics and beauty in the sculpting of phrases, a rich timbre palette and finesse, combined with extraordinary power - a real Tosca, embodied in sound and overall image.

The entire solo ensemble that will present the dramatic plot of "Tosca" on Friday is first-rate. Under the baton of the chief conductor of the Burgas Opera, Ivan Kozhuharov, on the stage in the Primorsky Park on Thursday, they appear: in the image of the artist Mario Cavaradossi, Tosca's beloved, tenor Daniel Damyanov, soloist of the Sofia Opera and State Opera - Burgas, who at the end of in May he was an exciting Canio in another operatic masterpiece - "Pagliacci" by Ruggero Leoncavallo, who was a contemporary and friend of Puccini, and a month before - an impressive Samson in the opera by Camille Saint-Saens "Samson and Delilah", in partnership with the distinguished mezzo-soprano Daniela Dyakova.

Mario Cavaradossi has a free spirit, but a heart captivated by love – the two lovers are connected by a beautiful love marked by tragedy and doom. The two distinguished singers are expected to enter into stage harmony and recreate the dynamics of feelings and the tragic reflections of the beauty of their doomed love. And Cavaradossi's famous Aria in the third act, which always, invariably moves, will once again be a long-awaited and emotional highlight of Tuesday's opera evening.

In the image of the ruthless and unrelenting in his cruelty, Baron Scarpia will be reincarnated by the eminent baritone Marjan Jovanoski, soloist of the National Opera of the Republic of North Macedonia and State Opera - Burgas. He is convincing in building the image of an evil villain who pays with his life for his meanness, padded with self-centeredness and treachery. Marjan Jovanoski is not only impressive - as a palette of artistic nuances, but also with the richness of timbre and beautifully controlled voice.

As the escaped prisoner Cesare Angelotti and former consul of the once-free Roman Republic, the bass player Diman Panchev takes the stage, presenting the image convincingly and with emotional depth. The entire artistic composition is wonderful - Kostadin Mechkov, bass, Spoleta, a police agent, will be the tenor Yani Nikolov, Sharone - bass Petar Tiholov, Jailer - Ivan Grozev, Shepherd - Stefka Hristozova in the images of the Klisary and the Jailer. The orchestra and choir of the State Opera - Burgas, as well as the wonderful singers from the "Milka Stoeva" Children's Choir, take part in the performance.

"Tosca" is directed by Associate Professor Alexander Tekeliev, Ph.D., and the production quests emphasize the deep study of human actions, the reasons that give rise to fateful decisions, as well as the power of our internal choices. The conductor of the choir is Alexander Chepanov, the concertmaster is Vanya Zlateva.

The romantic storyline of "Tosca" is heartbreaking with its tragic denouement. The story is about two lovers - the beautiful, bold, burning with love and passion Floria Tosca and the talented artist Mario Cavaradossi - with a free spirit, but a heart captivated by love. Two people who dared to defy the cruel rules of a harsh world. Their pure love is under the cruel shadow of the powerful villain from whom all of Rome trembles - Baron Scarpia, Chief of Police in the Eternal City. Synchronous with the stage action and plot logic, the stage effects also alternate – video mapping recreating different stages of the characters' dramatic experiences and the symbolism of suffering, as well as the lighting, which reinforces the emotional resonance caused by the tragic events.

The performance of "Tosca" is expected to be a real cultural event during the summer season for the seaside town - both in terms of quality and in terms of the power of the emotional charge, as the opera by Puccini will not just be presented, sung, played, but felt and experienced. The audience will be initiated into a mystery that contains the dimensions of the purest parameters of Love and Self-Sacrifice, tracing the dramatic plot line, revealing a very short segment of time for the characters, but containing the whole spectrum of experiences, shaking with its tragic denouement. There is hardly a person who is not moved by the drama of two people who dared to defy the cruel canons of a harsh world.
