The next event of the State Opera – Burgas for November is a concert that deserves the attention of symphonic music fans and connoisseurs of high performing skills. Under the baton of the distinguished conductor Prof. Dr. Grigor Palikarov, chief conductor of the State Opera – Plovdiv, chief artistic director of the Symphony Orchestra – Pazardzhik, permanent guest conductor of the State Opera – Varna, frequent and desired guest conductor at the Burgas Opera, lecturer at the National Music Academy “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” – Sofia, a diverse concert program, selected with flair and taste, will be presented at the Symphony Concert on November 20, Thursday, at 7:00 p.m. in the hall of the Burgas Opera. Weeks ago, maestro Palikarov was behind the conductor’s desk at the gala concert of the laureates of the International Opera Singers’ Competition “Stoyan Popov” in the hall of the Burgas Cultural Institute. He conducted three of the memorable opera performances in this year's edition of the "Opera of the Sanctuary" festival on the stage under the starry dome of the ancient Thracian sanctuary and space observatory Begliktash, Primorsko Municipality: "Samson and Delilah", "Aida", and "Nabucco".

The soloist of the Burgas Opera Orchestra at the concert on Thursday is the remarkable artist Prof. Dr. Borislava Taneva, pianist, chamber musician, and composer. She is a laureate of international piano, chamber music and composition competitions in Bulgaria, Italy, Japan, Greece, Luxembourg and Norway, and in 2010 she was awarded the Grand Prize "Prix Exceptionnel" at the First International Composition Competition "Artistes en herbe" in Luxembourg, and in 2017 - with second prize at the "Edvard Grieg" Composition Competition in Oslo. Prof. Taneva is a lecturer at the National Academy of Music "Prof. Pancho Vladigerov". In 2014, she was awarded the Golden Pen Award for outstanding contribution to Bulgarian culture and art, and in 2015, she was awarded the Crystal Lyre of the Union of Musicians and the Musician of the Year of the Bulgarian National Radio for her active creative activity. Since 2016, she has been co-chair of the Pianissimo Foundation. The London publishing house Musica Ferrum has published her piano work for children, which has been awarded many times at international forums.

Vanya Zlateva will be the concertmaster of the Burgas Opera Orchestra at the concert on November 20. The concert program includes iconic works from the classical musical treasury for symphony orchestra: Overture to the opera "The Barber of Seville" by Gioacchino Rossini, which has long gained popularity as a work that is performed independently. With its virtuosity and vital spirit, the opening movement of the popular comic opera will bring a cheerful atmosphere and charm to the Opera Hall on November 20. The second piece to be performed in the concert program is the Piano Concerto No. 12, K. 414 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the brilliant representative of the Viennese Classical School. The Piano Concerto in A major is one of three that Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) wrote at the end of 1782 for the winter concert season in Vienna, following the success of his opera The Abduction from the Palace. Over the next few years, Mozart achieved fame and fortune in Vienna, producing and participating in concerts with his own music, with his piano concerts being the main attraction of every holiday. In a letter to his father in December 1782, he wrote: “These concertos are a golden mean between too heavy and too light. They are brilliant, pleasing to the ear, and natural without being stilted. There are parts here and there from which only connoisseurs can derive satisfaction, but these passages are written in such a way that the less educated cannot help being pleased, though without knowing why.” For Mozart, the key of A major was usually lyrical and calm, and Concerto No. 12 is a prime example – an elegant, flowing work without dramatic surprises.

Thursday’s program will conclude with a large-scale work – Symphony No. 4 “Italian”, Op 90 by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. Symphony No. 4, called “Italian”, is like a musical letter sent by Mendelssohn after his inspiring trip to Italy.

Composed in 1833, the work is filled with joy, light, and picturesqueness, expressing the essence of Italy – from its festive moments, sparkling with vitality and a unique taste for life, to its quieter, more intimate moments. The first movement, Allegro vivace, is distinguished by an energetic and festive character, reflecting the vitality of Italian culture. Andante con moto, the second movement, reveals the mystical charm of religious processions, which impressed the composer with their sacred atmosphere and rhythm. The minuet in the third movement offers gentle elegance, while Saltarello – Presto, the finale, conveys a wild dance with unparalleled energy, inspired by traditional Italian dances. This symphony is considered by musicologists not only a musical picture of Italy, but also a testament to Mendelssohn’s genius, who managed to transform his experiences into immortal and moving works.

The symphonic concert on November 20 in the State Opera Hall, Burgas, is an invitation to a refined experience of high musical and aesthetic value.

Don’t miss out on experiencing a celebration of the spirit – with a beautifully selected program, a classy conductor and soloist, excellent musicians from the Burgas Opera Orchestra, and contact with art that ennobles, enriches, and will remain in emotional memories!
