The performance of the "ballet of ballets" to the immortal music of P. I. Tchaikovsky - "Swan Lake" will give fans of fine art incomparable moments of experiencing the art of the highest class on Monday, August 19, at 8:30 p.m. hours on the stage of the Summer Theater in Burgas. Boryana Petrova, prima ballerina of the Sofia Opera and Ballet, and Emil Yordanov, premier ballet dancer of the National Cultural Institute and the State Opera - Burgas, play the main roles of Odette/Odilia and Prince Siegfried. The remarkable performance, bearer of the best of the classical ballet traditions - staged, directed, and choreographed by Prof. Hikmet Mehmedov /after Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov/, was presented on August 13, 2020, also in the Summer Theater, when his 70th anniversary. The following year, a performance of "Swan Lake" took place with great success on the open stage in Primorski Park. After a two-year absence from the stage of the Burgas Opera, the most famous ballet of all time made a triumphant return to the packed Summer Theater in August 2023 and caused stormy emotional reactions from the international audience.
At the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024, the extremely successful tour of "Swan Lake" took place in nine Bulgarian cities, and the artists of the ballet troupe of the Burgas Opera were welcomed and sent off with unceasing ovations from the full halls. In November 2023, the performance of the ballet masterpiece took place in the hall of the State Opera - Burgas, also with a full house, with Boryana Petrova and Emil Yordanov in the main roles.
Prof. Mehmedov's production has the characteristics of an aesthetic product of the highest quality - intelligently presented, padded with psychological depth, with implicit philosophical interpretations, and brilliantly developed directorial ideas. It is an indisputable fact that the presence of "Swan Lake" in the creative poster is an attestation of the level of any ballet company. The sumptuous performance will be presented with its overall brilliance and conceptual completeness - as emotional padding and scope, again on the stage of the Burgas Opera on Monday. Spectators will be convinced - once again, that Prof. Mehmedov's production is an aesthetic jewel that contains the entire spectrum of the characteristics of the best of classical ballet art - conceptual completeness, emotional depth, philosophical references, large-scale thinking, and synchronous combination of all elements - in the final stage realization.
The assistant director of the magnificent production is the prima ballerina Vesa Tonova, and the tutor of the "Swan Lake" ballet ensemble is Galina Kalcheva, a long-time prima ballerina of the Burgas Opera who manages to maintain high levels of emotional level, motivation, and professionalism in the artists, the assistant director is Peter Tikholov. The exquisite costumes are the result of the creative scope of the late Tsvetanka Petkova-Stoynova, who took care of the manual attachment of each one of the "Swarovski" stones to the aesthetically pleasing stage costumes of the ballet dancers. The impressive scenography, transporting the audience to the lavish royal court and the mystical scenes by the lake, is the work of the acclaimed master of scenography Ivan Tokadzhiev. It is no coincidence that Prof. Mehmedov's "Swan Lake" is considered the most beautiful staging of the immortal ballet classic on the native stage. The main color of the decor is blue - in different shades. In some of the scenes, multimedia is also used, which is an additional emotional and meaningful element of the overall suggestion.
Beautiful and irresistible in their pursuit of perfection in the most exquisite art will be the two superb soloists again - Boryana Petrova and Emil Dimitrov, who deserved thunderous applause at the performances of "Swan Lake" at the Summer Theater in August, as well as in November 2023 - on the stage of the Burgas Opera House. They were completely merged into a stage unity, recreating the beautiful dramatic story with a happy ending. Along with the characters of the White and the Black Swan /Odette and Odile/, which include the prima ballerina of the Sofia Opera and Ballet Boryana Petrova, graceful and delicate as a statuette, comes to life the image of Prince Siegfried, who falls fatally in love with Odette, spotting her on the shore on the lake - the brilliant premier ballet dancer of the National Opera Theater and the Burgas Opera Emil Yordanov enters the inspired stage incarnation of the image.
Daniel Tichkov, the premiere ballet dancer of the State Opera - Burgas, enters the characteristic role - ultra-dynamic and emotional, whirlwind, as always. The image of the evil sorcerer Rothbart, who cursed Odette and her friends with a cruel punishment to turn into noble, beautiful birds during the day, and only after sunset they take human form again, is presented by the soloist of the ballet troupe at the State Opera - Burgas, Teodor Tsakov. who was convincing and impactful in his debut as Siegfried in performances of "Swan Lake" in nine Bulgarian cities, together with Daniela Turtumanova-Stoyanova - as Odette/Odilia and on this occasion received the prize of the Mayor of Burgas Municipality Dimitar Nikolov on the occasion May 24. for achievements in the field of culture. The role of the Queen, mother of Siegfried, will be performed by Anelia Ivanova, who presents the image with its characteristic dignity and aristocracy.
The large-scale performance also takes part: Little Swans - Kalina Nedelcheva, Rafaela-Maria Kül, Nanako Sato. Julia Letzi; Big swans – Laya Ramon, Yana Berduta, Natalie Ivanova, Ilina Konstantinova, Gergana Kozarova. In the temperamental Spanish dance, the audience at the Summer Theater will see: Alex Arabska and Haru Nakagawa, in Neapolitan dance - Ilina Konstantinova and Kiril Filipov, in Hungarian dance - Ivana Fialkovska, Julia Letsi, Francesco Pio Russo and Shun Kalafune. Nanako Sato, Rafaela-Maria Kül, Kalina Nedelcheva, and Polina Pasha appear on the stage as the elegant Brides.
The artists from the corps de ballet of the State Opera-Burgas also take part in the impressive ballet performance, who build the large-scale common scenes with professional flair, enviable synchronicity and overall thought, transformed into a beautiful trajectory of the bodies. All artists will tell on August 19 – through the means of exquisite ballet art, the exciting tale of the power of true love, overcoming obstacles, temptations, trials, and pain.
Tchaikovsky's immortal classic in four acts, Swan Lake, is considered a must-see at least once in a lifetime. The fairy-tale plot, exciting music and stunning costumes manage to keep the attention of even the youngest viewers - the performance is extremely warmly received by the audience in the widest age range. As the ballet piece has been reworked over the years, the ending has been performed differently, with either a happy or dramatic denouement. In one of the versions, the lake swallows the lovers on their way to the afterlife, and in the second, the ending is happy - Siegfried defeats the evil sorcerer and frees his beloved Odette from the spell.
