10 november 2022 Eastern Mysticism&Southern Temperament-"Scheherazade"&"Paquita"

On November 14th, Monday, at 7 p.m. in the hall of the Burgas Opera, a new meeting of ballet lovers is coming with two performances that will be presented in one artistic evening - "Scheherazade" - a one-act ballet to the music of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, and "Paquita" - to the music of Ludwig Minkus. The author of the choreography and direction of "Scheherazade" is the recognized master in the field of ballet art - Prof. Hikmet Mehmedov. The scenography is by the famous Boris Stoynov, and the costume designer is no less famous in art circles Tsvetanka Petkova-Stoynova /both of them, unfortunately, are no longer with us, but their wonderful creations remain, which continue their stage life/. The tutor of the ballet ensemble is Galina Kalcheva. The long-time prima ballerina of the Burgas Opera is the director of "Paquita", which ballet fans have seen in previous performances together with the stage cantata "Carmina Burana", and for the first time on Monday, they will have the opportunity to see the production saturated with southern temperament and ardor together with the difference in style, dynamics and messages "Scheherazade", which carries the mysticism of the East. The assistant director of both productions is Petar Tiholov. Soloists and an ensemble of the ballet ensemble of the State Opera - Burgas take part in both ballet performances.

In the roles on the stage of Opera Burgas on Monday evening / November 14. in the performance, "Scheherazade" will be performed: Yana Berduta - debut in the role of Scheherazade. Burgas' audience will see Teodor Tsakov in the role of Roba. Kiril Filipov will play Shahriar for the first time, and Svetlan Nikolov will be the Eunuch. The women's four will perform Anelia Ivanova, Emona Georgieva, Natalie Ivanova, and Ilina Konstantinova. Maids will be: Maria Gabarova and Patricia Soares. The fabulous story, told through the exquisite means of ballet art, to the characteristic music with oriental motifs by Rimsky-Korsakov, also features Iva Kavrkova, Kalina Nedelcheva, Ivana Fialkovska, Bianka-Helen Giovanelli, Elena Georgieva, Gergana Georgieva, Stefan Tipikov, Stoyan Furtunov.

This is what Prof. Hikmet Mehmedov said in an interview with BNR on the occasion of the staging of "Scheherazade": "I present the version in my own way, in harmony with the dynamism of the time. I emphasize not the pantomime narrative dance theater, which is Fokin's signature when creating "Scheherazade", and of the dynamic expressive dance characteristic of our era." Here is part of Neyo Radev's analysis, which interprets the messages of "Scheherazade": "The engine of the whole semantic carousel is precisely Love. But the love in which aggression is the result of dogmas and prejudices, and forgiveness - of individual will and decision. In this play, Hikmet Mehmedov once again proves himself as an individualist, philosophically defending his views and positions of one of the thinking and deeply sensitive choreographers."

In the variations from the ballet "Paquita" to the music of Ludwig Minkus and directed by Galina Kalcheva, on November 14, the following will perform on the stage of the Burgas Opera: Daniela Turtumanova-Stoyanova /debut/, Daniel Tichkov /debut/ In Pa de Trois the following will take part: Natalie Ivanova, Ilina Konstantinova, Kiril Filipov /debut for all three/. In the temperamental ballet scenes, saturated with dynamics and presented with high technical mastery, the following also participate Emona Georgieva, Kalina Nedelcheva, Raya Chakarova /student in the 10th grade of NUMSI "Prof. Pancho Vladigerov" - Burgas, with ballet teacher Dilyana Bakhmatova/, Nikol Marenova /graduate of NUMSI "Prof. Pancho Vladigerov", ballet teacher - Dilyana Bakhmatova/, Sabina Koseva /student in XII grade of NUMSI "Prof. Pancho Vladigerov", with ballet teacher Dobrina Bahova/, Iva Kavrkova, Gergana Georgieva, Yana Berduta, Ivana Fialkovska, Maria Gabarova, Elena Georgieva, Bianka-Helen Giovanelli, Teddy Dimitrova, Violeta Goranova. In the ballet extravaganza, graduates of NUMSI "Prof. Pancho Vladigerov" - Burgas and Children's Ballet Theater "Kapka" take part.

"Paquita" is a classical ballet piece that I especially love," says Galina Kalcheva, who played in the production of "Pakhita" by the famous Russian ballerina and choreographer Lyubov Fominikh on the Burgas stage years ago. "On the stage of the Burgas Opera House on Monday, separate variations of the work will be performed, which show the artist's mastery in the best way. "Paquita" is a very suitable title for maintaining the shape of the ballet troupe," adds Kalcheva.

The ballet production "Pahita" directed by Galina Kalcheva won the prestigious prize "Event of the city of July" in the annual ranking "Musical event of the year" for 2021 of the classical music and jazz program "Eternal Music" on BNT, with author and host Mario Nikolov.
