The large-scale production of one of Giacomo Puccini's most popular operas - "Turandot" will be presented on the stage of the Burgas Opera on July 22 at 8:30 p.m. on the stage of the Summer Theater - Burgas. The exciting event, under the baton of maestro Grigor Palikarov /guest/, winner of a number of prestigious awards, among which the prize of the Municipality of Burgas "Emil Chakarov" for 2019, the Burgas public and the guests of the seaside city will have the privilege of enjoying the exceptional craftsmanship of the soloists of the Sofia Opera and Ballet: the magnificent soprano Gabriela Georgieva /guest/ – in the role of the Chinese princess Turandot, and the brilliant tenor Kostadin Andreev /guest/ – in the role of Prince Calaf. The event is the next in the program of the Burgas Music Festivals "Emil Chakarov", carried out by the State Opera - Burgas, in a long-standing successful partnership of the Municipality of Burgas.
Turandot, an opera in three acts, is a tale of cruel inexorability broken by the incomparable power of true love. The opera work is also known for one of the most beloved arias - "Nessun Dorma" /"No Оne Сleeps". Kalaf's song is a kind of symbol of the love confession of a man in love. Over the years it has been performed by great operatic voices – Enrico Caruso and Luciano Pavarotti and many others.
The scenography and costumes of "Turandot" are by the unforgettable masters Boris Stoinov and Tsvetanka Stoinova, the conductor of the choir, who plays an important role in the stage action, is Nevena Mihailova, the concertmaster of the orchestra of the Burgas Opera is Hristo Belchev, the assistant director is Petar Tiholov.
On Friday evening, July 22nd, on the open stage in Primorsky Park, in the image of the famous ice-cold Chinese princess Turandot, the Burgas audience and guests of the city will have the privilege of seeing and hearing Gabriela Georgieva, for whom the role of Turandot is a crown and performed by her and on the Burgas stage more than once - with respectable vocal professionalism and a memorable stage presence. The prima of the Sofia Opera will be partnered by the renowned tenor with a wonderful timbre and wide vocal range, Kostadin Andreev - as Prince Calaf, whose heart is melted under the influence of love, unknown to her until the moment she meets the Prince. The famous opera singer made his debut on the stage of the State Opera - Burgas in the role of Rudolph in "Bohemia" by Puccini in 1992 and has repeatedly sung with great success on the Burgas stage.
In the role of the young slave Liu, hopelessly in love with Calaf, who chooses self-sacrifice over betrayal, will be the magnificent dramatic soprano Ioana Zhelezcheva, who gives the image an incomparable emotional richness, combined with the beautiful melody of her voice. In the image of the dethroned king of the Tatars in exile - Timur, the bassist Delyan Slavov enters - with a dignified stage presence and a wonderful timbre. In the roles of court chancellor Ping and Mandarin, the audience will have the pleasure of seeing again the famous baritone Alexander Krunev, who was recently in a completely different role on the Burgas stage - in the role of Figaro in the comic opera "The Barber of Seville" by Gioacchino Rossini, based on the innovative production of Assoc. Dr. Alexander Tekeliev. Young tenor Yani Nikolov will perform as Marshal Pang, and Milen Dinolov, tenor, as Chef Pong. The role of the Emperor of China Altum will be played by the tenor Miroslav Dimitrov, and the Prince of Persia will be Lubomir Todorov, also a tenor.
In the impressive - both in terms of scale, as a challenge to the singers' abilities, and as a message - the production includes the orchestra, choir, and ballet of the State Opera - Burgas, as well as the wonderful performers from the Children's Choir "Milka Stoeva" with conductor Svetla Stoeva, who sang with great success during the current opera season in the productions of "Tosca" and "Carmen" on the Burgas stage, as well as at the Christmas concert of the Burgas Opera in December 2021.
