12 april 2024 An Impressive Performance Of "Samson and Delilah" On Friday

This evening, despite the noble competition of the premiere performance of "Romeo and Juliet" in DT "Adriana Budevska", in the hall of the Burgas State Opera there were excited connoisseurs of the genius music of Camille Sem-Saens, who adapted the biblical plot of SAMSON AND DALILA / SAMSON ET DALILA with philosophical penetration and psychological depth. For the first time in the hall of the Opera "Samson and Delilah" - a title rarely performed worldwide, precisely because of its exceptional orchestral difficulty, polyphonic sound of choirs, arias and duets, which are aerobatics in the art of opera, the lavish costumes, the work of the prominent Romanian scenographer Katalin Arbore, the original directorial decisions of Assoc. Dr. Alexander Tekeliev, the skillful baton of the famous conductor Ivan Kozhuharov, who manages to extract from the musical score the most in-depth treatment and interpretation, the first-class artists and, last but not least, the thematically selected a multimedia environment, transporting to biblical times and complementing the psychological states of the characters, turned the spectacle into a real event of high artistic value. Congratulations to the technical team of the Burgas Opera and especially to Nikola Peshev, who created the multimedia. Today he had the premiere of his professional work, which is presented for the first time in the Opera House, coinciding with his personal holiday - he celebrates his birthday. Congratulations!
Admirations for the wonderful soloists: Daniela Dyakova - unquestionable in the role of Delilah, with a deep examination of the complex image and a wonderful expression; Daniel Damyanov - also impeccable as Samson - both as a vocal interpretation and as an artistic treatment; guest soloist Svilen Nimoklov - in the role of the cruel Supreme priest of Dagon - extremely affecting, as the personification of Evil in its pure form, and unappealing vocally. Applause also for the other wonderful soloists tonight; Delyan Slavov - as the hard-hearted Abemelech, Diman Panchev - as the Old Jew, Lubomir Todorov - Messenger of the Palestinians, Milen Dinolov - First Philistine, Branimmir Nedkov - Second Philistine.
Special congratulations to the orchestra with concertmaster Hristo Belchev, under the iron baton of the great Bulgarian conductor Ivan Kozhuharov - created a monolithic whole of the complex score - with the corresponding dynamics and brilliantly presented polyphonic beauty!
Bravo for choir - with conductor Alexander Chepanov - precise, with filigree dynamic nuances and overall impact. The ballet, which presented the cult "bacchanalia" and the first ballet scene - much more lyrical - according to the masterful choreography of Galina Kalcheva and tutor Marina Zmeeva-Markova, was stunning again. The artists from the ballet team recreated the complex dance with incredible inner strength and brilliant technique.
Present in the evils of the Opera is the drama of the Jew Samson, endowed with divine power, and the seductive Philistine Delilah, who harnesses all the elements of her feminine charm and manipulation to seduce, betray and destroy him.
The plot, based on biblical stories from the Old Testament, contains not only an intriguing narrative story line, but also deep moral dilemmas, presented in a delightful way through the means of music-stage art and the magnificent score of Camille Saint-Saëns.
