20 november 2025 An Inspiring Symphonic Concert Conducted by Grigor Palikarov
The evening of November 20 was a landmark - for the high level of the orchestral ensemble performing a wonderfully selected program, with an excellent conductor and soloist, and a large, responsive audience - with a SYMPHONIC CONCERT in the hall of the Burgas State Opera.
The fact that the soloist, Prof. Dr. Borislava Taneva, and the conductor, Prof. Dr. Grigor Palikarov, were applauded long and enthusiastically, and called for bows several times, is eloquent enough, since the audience could not be deceived. The reaction of those present is the surest indicator of the power of the charge and the messages embedded in a given performance.
The concert program selected popular works from classical musical literature for the symphony orchestra. In the hall of the Burgas Opera, the following were performed: Overture to the opera "The Barber of Seville" by Gioacchino Rossini. Brilliance, lightness, frivolous spirit, flying phrases, precision, charming playfulness, and vital mood were characteristic of the performance of the introductory part of the popular comic opera.
The second work featured in the stylish concert program was the Piano Concerto No. 12, K. 414, by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - one of the brilliant representatives of the Viennese Classical school.
The distinguished guest soloist Prof. Dr. Borislava Taneva, pianist, composer, vice-rector of the National Academy of Music "Prof. Pancho Vladigerov", presented not only brilliant music making - as a general philosophical interpretation of Mozart's piano concerto, sculpting each musical phrase - as an exquisite pearl string, a singing, caressing tone with a wealth of overtones, personal style and intelligent presence.
If a business card could be drawn up with a standard for Mozart's performance on the piano - with the characteristic light, bright, and cheerful and specific tone extraction, then Prof. Taneva fits perfectly into this characterological framework.
The concert program ended with Symphony No. 4, op. 90 by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. The symphony, called "Italian", is like a musical picture, inspired by the composer's journey in the picturesque regions of Italy.
Under the skillful conduct of Prof. Dr. Grigor Palikarov, the musicians seemed to smoothly lead those present in the hall through the beautiful fields of Tuscany, with the cypresses typical of the southern lands, as guardians of the love for festive moments and the taste for life's pleasures. They went through nostalgic intimate states, in which it seemed that the heart was traveling through the paths of its own contemplative sadness and turning to the Universe and God...
And the final part - with a bravura performance and an incredible energy charge, with brilliantly performed virtuoso passages, was like an emanation of the feeling of festivity and elevation of the spirit.
Admirations - for the impeccable performance of the musicians from the orchestra with concertmaster Vanya Zlateva, and for the comprehensive all-seeing eye and filigree conducting gesture of maestro Palikarov, who managed to encompass the process of sculpting the musical works in an amazingly professional and impactful, on a conscious and subconscious level, way!
The event was honored with the traditional basket of flowers on behalf of Mr. Dimitar Nikolov, Mayor of Burgas Municipality. And on behalf of the State Opera - Burgas, flowers were received by the soloist, Prof. Borislava Taneva.
