26 october 2025 The Third International Competition "Stoyan Popov" Was Opened

This evening at 6 pm in the lobby of the Burgas State Opera, the III INTERNATIONAL OPERA COMPETITION "STOYAN POPOV" '25 was officially launched.
The Director of the Burgas Opera - Prof. Dr. Alexander Tekeliev, announced the start of the Third International Opera Competition named after the world-renowned baritone Stoyan Popov, congratulated the dozens of young opera singers from over 10 countries who had registered to participate in the competition, wished them success and assured them that all the jury members are opera singers and precisely because of this fact, they will be as friendly as possible towards them.
Prof. Tekeliev added that he is happy that the competition of his teacher, maestro Popov, is already a tradition and that he has realized his idea of ​​having an opera studio for young singers, but in the form of a competition.
Opera prima Gabriela Georgieva, soloist of Sofia National Opera and Ballet and teacher at the NMA "Prof. Pancho Vladigerov" - Sofia, was invited by Alexander Tekeliev to draw the drawing, and the letter "Y" fell, i.e., tomorrow the participants will appear in this order - from names with the letter "Y" onwards.
Prof. Tekeliev congratulated all participants and wished them success. The director of the Burgas Opera expressed confidence that this year the competition will continue the good tradition of the previous two editions, in 2022 and 2023.
The event was honored by the Deputy Mayor for "Culture and Religions" at the Municipality of Burgas Diana Savateva Diana Savateva. Burgas Municipality provides financial assistance for the prize fund of the competition.
The official opening of the competition and the drawing of the lots this evening were also attended by Prof. Niko Isakov, baritone, lecturer at the Vocal Faculty at the National Academy of Music "Prof. Pancho Vladigerov" - Sofia National Academy of Music "Prof. Pancho Vladigerov", and Prof. Dr. Toni Shekerdzieva-Nowak - lecturer at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts "Prof. Asen Diamandiev" - Plovdiv, opera singer and vocal pedagogue - members of the authoritative jury, which, together with the chairman of the jury - the world-famous opera singer and vocal pedagogue Kaludi Kaludov, Prof. Dr. Alexander Tekeliev and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gabriela Georgieva will evaluate the participants in the competition program in both rounds.
The event was honored with a basket of flowers on behalf of the Mayor of Burgas Municipality, Mr. Dimitar Nikolov.
The holding of the International Opera Competition supports Burgas' candidacy for European Capital of Culture in 2032.
The first round of the Third International Competition for Young Opera Singers "Stoyan Popov" is tomorrow, Monday, October 27, at 10 a.m., in the hall of the Opera.
The second round is on Tuesday, October 28, at 12 p.m., also in the hall of the Burgas Cultural Institute.

The conductor of the laureates' gala concert, as usual, will be Prof. Dr. Grigor Palikarov, chief artistic director of the Symphony Orchestra - Pazardzhik, chief conductor at the State Opera Plovdiv State Opera Plovdiv and lecturer at the National Academy of Music "Prof. Pancho Vlafigerov" - Sofia.
