On the 7th of July, Thursday, at 8:30 p.m., another performance of the new production of "The Barber of Seville", a comic opera in two acts /three scenes/ by Gioacchino Rossini, will take place on the stage of the Summer Theater - Burgas. One of the most beloved operas in the world's musical heritage will be presented in a modern interpretation with elements of social satire, the work of the director Assoc. Dr. Alexander Tekeliev, combined with the original overall vision of the performance, the work of the talented young scenographer and costume designer Denis Ivanov. The event is part of the Burgas Music Festival "Emil Chakarov" 2022, which is being organized for the fifteenth time in a row by the State Opera - Burgas and the Municipality of Burgas.
The innovative production is breaking taboos and throwing down the gauntlet to rigid understandings and directorial skills. After the successful premiere in October 2021, all the performances so far have been enthusiastically and warmly received by the audience, in which many young people were also present, and this is a sure indication, that the production meets the expectations and tastes of a generation that clearly needs art, and that presented in a different way.
The creative and artistic team of "The Barber of Seville" is first-class and inspired, the set design and costumes are provocative to the senses and evoke associative connections, and Rossini's music sounds always relevant and brings mood and cheerfulness. The general opinion is that with each subsequent performance, the production continues to take on a more mature appearance.
All those who will be involved in the emotional and colorful adventure of the open stage in Primorski Park of Burgas on July 7th are preparing for another stage challenge. Maestro Ivan Kozhuharov stands behind the conductor's desk on Thursday. It is an indisputable fact that the famous conductor is a perfectionist - in terms of building dynamics, balance, and intellectual charge. The concertmaster of the wonderful orchestra, which performs the complex score with mood and ease, will be Hristo Belchev. The solo composition is also wonderful, which will fill the audience in the Summer Theater with many positive emotions. The baritone Alexander Krunev re-enters the image of the most famous barber in opera, and not only Figaro, in the new production he is a copy of Elvis Presley, and the image is entirely in the style of the 70s of the 20th century. Lyric-spint tenor Nikolay Motsov makes a guest appearance again in the role of Count /Sheikh/ Almaviva. The role of the charming coquette Rozina is played by the beautiful mezzo-soprano Ioana Kadiyska, for whom the upcoming performance will be the third stage reincarnation in the new production of Alexander Tekeliev in one of her dream roles. Bass Kostadin Mechkov will once again generate sincere laughter with the image of the annoying Dr. Bartolo. Bass Diman Panchev will cause an explosion of emotions with his role of Don Basilio, for which he received this year's award of the Municipality of Burgas on the occasion of May 24 - for special achievements in the field of art and culture. The soprano Nona Krastnikova will once again be the funny and provocative housekeeper Bertha. Baritone Branimir Nedkov will perform in the original roles of Fiorello and the Officer. In the director's concept, an important function is also assigned to all the artists from the choir /conductor Nevena Mihailova/, who have individual humorous artistic sketches. Mira Iskarova will perform the piano recitatives, and the assistant directors of the large-scale production are Lina Peeva and Petar Tiholov.
The performance of "The Barber of Seville" will be multispectral - for the first time on an open stage on Thursday, and will cause spontaneous laughter, as well as reflections generated after the smiles, color, intelligent directorial decisions, daring avant-garde vision, skillfully woven eroticism without stepping the limit of good taste. The production touches on touchy subjects in a non-standard reading, colored with socio-psychological nuances. There are also frank references to modern "prose" - masks, disinfectants, vaccines, RZI, Mossad, FBI, DANS, terrorist threats, and even Playboy magazine. The storyline follows dizzyingly absurd situations that reflect not only the characters of funny characters but also the most characteristic of the not-so-funny time we live in...
The program of the Burgas Music Festival "Emil Chakarov" includes a performance of "The Barber of Seville" on the stage of the Summer Theater - Burgas - on August 24, with the main roles: Ilina Mihailova /guest/, Dobromir Momekov /guest/, Nikolay Motsov /guest/, Kostadin Mechkov, Delyan Slavov, Nona Krastnikova, and Branimir Nedkov. On September 8th, the first performance outside Burgas is coming up - on the stage of the Summer Theater - Varna.
