08 august 2026 Scale and Majestic Visual Environment in "Nabucco"
A large-scale, impressive, captivating, professionally presented performance of NABUCCO by Giuseppe Verdi, under the extremely precise conducting of Prof. Dr. Ivaylo Krinchev, was a kind of cultural celebration for the numerous international audience under the bright, starry sky of the Thracian sanctuary of Beglik Tash on Saturday evening.
The opera title by Verdi is presented for the fourth time within the framework of the "Opera of the Sanctuary" festival, and with each year the production, adapted to have an exceptional impact among the ancient rocks, is enriched and developed. Last year's performance was the culmination - with the beautiful and enchanting visual environment, which seemed to open the doors to another historical era in a completely natural way, transporting those present to another era, where people love, suffer, betray, are betrayed, repent, and ask God for forgiveness in an identical way as our contemporaries.
Admirations for the magnificent soloists: baritone Maryan Jovanoski - in his crowning role as Nabucco - bright, convincing, impactful, igniting emotional fires and purifying feelings in the role of the cruel king of Babylon, who goes through a spiritual and metamorphosis; tenor Yani Nikolov - with the softness of his velvety voice, but with a strong presence and categoricalness, characteristic of the image of Ishmael; captivating and enchanting with his noble radiance and dignity bass Diman Panchev - in the role of the high priest of the Israelites Zechariah; astonishing - in terms of mastery of stage behavior, a pure and expressive voice and the necessary for the character a metallic timbre, reinforcing the characteristics of the image, Yoana Zhelezcheva, soprano - as the illegitimate Babylonian princess, who loses the battle for the throne and the love of her father Abigail; a brilliant debut of the mezzo-soprano Maria Yurkovska - wonderful, sensual, beautiful and with an excellently mastered voice - both in the solo performance of Fenena's Aria and in the complex ensembles; respectful and imposing Kostadin Mechkov, bass - in the role of the High Priest; soprano Nona Krastnikova - emotional and with a remarkable piercing voice, in the image of Anna, the sister of Zachariah; the temperament Milen Dinolov - in the role of the faithful warrior of Nabucco Abdalo.
The orchestra of the Burgas Opera also deserves special congratulations - with concertmaster Hristo Belchev, who, under the direction of Prof. Ivaylo Krinchev, sounded stable, precise, with a powerful sound, floating above the rocks, and bright dynamic nuances; and the choir - with conductor Alexander Chepanov, who was not only a complement to the dramatic plot, but also a main character, especially in the emblematic "Choir of the Jews", in which even Nature fell silent, witnessing the sacred action of the magical place; the artists from the male ballet troupe of the State Opera - Burgas - in the roles of warriors impressive in physique and presence, as well as the entire team of specialists responsible for the complex technical support of the outdoor performance!
The event was the third of the "Opera of the Sanctuary" festival, successfully realized for the seventh time by the State Opera - Burgas and the Municipality of Primorsko.
And this evening the gods, who have protected the sacred place for millennia, were favorable to the creation of art that awakens memory, encoding the messages and feelings that have dominated humanity from its creation to the present day.
Congratulations on the brilliantly realized ambitious musical and stage project on the most unusual terrain for opera art in Bulgaria!
