We present the program of the Burgas Music Festival "Emil Chakarov" 2026:
The Burgas Music Festival, named after the world-famous Bulgarian conductor born in Burgas - Emil Chakarov, is a highlight in the rich summer cultural program of our seaside city.
The summer music festival will be held for the nineteenth time this year by the Burgas State Opera in partnership with the Burgas Municipality.
The Maestro Emil Chakarov Prize was established in
2011, with the first recipient of the award being Mincho Minchev – a violinist with a world-class career, whom the Mayor of the Municipality – Mr. Dimitar Nikolov, awarded with the high distinction “The Key to the Tower of Burgas” on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the great Bulgarian musician – during his concert with Lyudmil Angelov – a prominent Bulgarian pianist, in the hall of the
Burgas Opera – in October 2020.
In each of the years – so far, the “Emil Chakarov” Prize has been awarded to deserving individuals in the field of musical and performing arts. The last recipient of the prestigious prize is the soloist of the Sofia Opera and Ballet, Kostadin Andreev – a frequent and welcome guest in productions of the Burgas Opera.
The Maestro Emil Chakarov Prize was established in 2011 – with the first recipient being Mincho Minchev. In 2012, the award was presented to Rumen Tsonev, in 2013 – to Alexander Tekeliev. The next winners of the prestigious award are: Nayden Todorov – 2014, Dimitar Ivanov – 2015, Georgi Spasov – 2016, Dimitar Momchilov – 2017, Kamen Chanev – 2018, Grigor Palikarov – 2019, Ivaylo Krinchev – 2020; in 2021, the award is not awarded due to the pandemic situation and a canceled concert, Kiril Manolov – 2022, Mario Nikolov – 2023, Edelina Kaneva – 2024, Kostadin Andreev - 2025. This year's edition of the Burgas Ballet will open on July 1 with the ballet performance "Le Corsaire". Two more ballet performances are coming up for fans of the fine art of dance: "Don Quixote" DON QUIXOTE and "Giselle" GISELLE - all three productions are directed by Galina Kalcheva.
The festival program of "Emil Chakarov" 2026 includes opera titles: "Samson and Dalila" SAMSON ET DALILA - as the large-scale production directed by Prof. Dr. Alexander Tekeliev will be presented on the picturesque stage of the Tsarevets fortress - on July 11 this year, within the festival "Stage of the Ages; "Tosca" TOSCA by Giacomo Puccini, the musical-stage performance "Angels and Demons" ANGELS AND DEMONS. The colorful operetta production "The Czardas Queen" DIE CSÁRDÁSFÜRSTIN, directed by Prof. Dr. Alexander Tekeliev, will also be presented on the stage of the Summer Theater in Burgas. MY FAIR LADY / MY FAIR LADY, directed by Prof. Tekeliev.
The children's audience will be delighted with four titles: "Alice in Wonderland" ALICE IN WONDERLAND, "Patilantsi" PATILANCI, "The Three Little Pigs - Pif, Paf, Pouf" PIF, PAF, POUF and "Max and Moritz".
There are also surprises in the summer program of the Burgas Cultural Institute, which will certainly be an aesthetic bonus for fans of classical music in our seaside city, as well as for guests of Burgas.

This year, the Burgas State Opera offers three exquisite events from the summer program "Coupon on the Island", traditionally held on the open picturesque stage of St. Anastasia Island.
The concerts will give unforgettable moments to the guests of the Island, in which music, nature, summer sea, starry sky, and romantic Moon merge into a single feeling of "freezing the moment", reflected in a blissful feeling of shared happiness and aesthetic synchrony:

Festival "Opera of the Sanctuary" 2026 - Begliktash, Primorsko Municipality
The "Opera of the Sanctuary" Festival in 2026 will be
carried out for the seventh time by the Burgas State Opera, in a long-standing successful partnership with the Primorsko Municipality, and will present five titles from the world opera treasury:
UN BALLO IN MASCHERA by Giuseppe Verdi - on July 25,
CARMINA BURANA – BOLERO "Carmina Burana" by Carl Orff and "Bolero" by Maurice Ravel - on August 1,
NABUCCO by Verdi - on August 8,
AIDA - on August 15,
RIGOLETTO - on August 22, with all performances starting at 8:30 PM.
The direction of all the productions that will be presented in the festival program of "Opera of the Sanctuary" 2026 is by Prof. Dr. Alexander Tekeliev.
The performances of the State Opera - Burgas at the Thracian sanctuary provide for another year a unique chance to come into contact with the mythical symbolism of the sacred place, combined with the artistic suggestions of the operas.
The mysticism of Strandzha Mountain, combined with the eternal messages of classical works, will once again be a prerequisite for special sensations that will remain in the mind with the halo of unforgettable experiences.
The place under the open sky of the mythical Strandzha is magical - an exciting meeting of messages from antiquity with the modern interpretation of eternal classical music takes place. In such moments, Nature becomes silent and listens to the voice of Art.
The performances - among the natural decor of the megalithic sanctuary, on a specially built stage next to the stone complex, as well as on the stone blocks themselves, seem to be under the protection of the ancient Thracians, who lived and performed their mystical rituals in these lands, which are symbolically with the entire huge team implementing the ambitious undertaking.
The organization of the large-scale cultural event is remarkably good, including preparing the terrain for the specifics of an opera performance in natural conditions, transporting the guests of the event, and ensuring optimal comfort for the audience in the heart of the mountain.
In the organization and implementation of a forum of such a scale, it should also be mentioned the traditionally high level of the technical services, which during the festival take care of ensuring the overall vision of the performances, taking into account the difficult terrain and the specifics of the open stage.
In the unusual and difficult conditions for the realization of such a large-scale opera spectacle, the work done by the people responsible for the technical equipment, lighting, and sound system is perfect.
The logistics on the part of the Municipality of Primorsko are also of an extremely high standard, tailored to visitors' needs to provide optimal comfort during the performances and ensure that the experience under the stars of Strandzha remains unforgettable.
The productions of the State Opera - Burgas in the "Opera of the Sanctuary" festival, which has become a good tradition, provide a unique chance to encounter the symbolism of the sacred place, combined with the aesthetics and artistic solutions of the opera titles.
