12 may 2022 Tanya Ivanova Was An Exceptional Tosca on the Burgas Stage
No matter how overexposed the phrase "Ars longa, vita brevis" / "Life is short, art - forever" / by Hippocrates, tonight in the hall of the Burgas State Opera it acquired very real dimensions.
Both those who create art and those who empathize with it were subject not only to another interpretation of Puccini's immortal music under the masterful direction of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alexander Tekeliev. And as if they were accomplices in a mystery - of initiates in the canons of the eternal dimensions of Beauty, Love, Sacrifice.
The audience followed the dramatic storyline, shaking with a tragic outcome. The story of two lovers - the beautiful, daring, burning with love and passion Floria Tosca and the talented artist Mario Cavaradossi - with a free spirit, but captivated by a love heart. Two people dared to oppose the cruel rules of a harsh world, whose pure love is under the cruel shadow of the powerful villain, from whom all Rome trembles - Baron Scarpia.
Under the baton of maestro Ivan Kozhuharov, who during the rehearsals made - skillfully and with great dedication and uncompromising professionalism, every detail of Puccini's amazing score, tonight was presented a complete musical-artistic-aesthetic product - with soul and charge. The orchestra sounded great, balanced, and with precise dynamics following the dramatic line.
Synchronous with the stage action and the plot logic were the stage effects - video mapping, recreating different stages of the dramatic experiences of the characters and the symbolism of suffering, as well as lighting that enhances the emotional resonance caused by tragic events.
Those present in the Opera Hall felt with all their senses that the role of Tosca seemed to be created for the brilliant dramatic soprano Tanya Ivanova.
Every emotion, change in the mood of the heroine, mental metamorphoses, painful failures and bursting hope, every trembling, impulse, and zeal was sculpted in a filigree way - and vocally, as an artistic suggestion, and as an emotional impact, by Tanya Ivanova.
The tenor Daniel Damyanov was in the image of Mario Cavaradossi, Tosca's favorite. The synchronicity between the two artists was palpable, recreating the dynamics of the feelings passing into the psychic spaces of the images they created and the beauty of their doomed love. And Cavaradossi's famous Aria in Act Three left the audience breathless.
In the image of the ruthless and relentless in his cruelty, Baron Scarpia incarnated the famous baritone Marian Jovanoski, who was unquestionably convincing in building the image of an unscrupulous villain who pays with his life for his meanness, backed by egocentrism and insidiousness.
The image of the escaped prisoner Cesare Angelotti was also memorable, which was convincingly presented by the bassist Diman Panchev.
The bass Kostadin Mechkov, the roles of Klisarya, the tenor Yani Nikolov - as Spoleto, the bass Petar Tiholov - Sharone, Ivan Grozev, the bass - as the Prisoner, Lina Peeva - the Shepherd also fit into the overall impact of the production.
The orchestras and choirs of the State Opera - Burgas, with conductor Nevena Mihaylova and the wonderful young singers from the Children's Choir "Milka Stoeva" with conductor Svetla Stoeva, who poured their emotional charge into the story of one a sad story about love, the meaning, and charge of which passes into Eternity, despite the dramatic circumstances that put a tragic end to its earthly manifestation ...
At the end of the performance, the traditional flower greeting was presented on behalf of the Mayor of Burgas Dimitar Nikolov.
