21 april 2026 Wonderful Performance of "The Barber of Seville"

The rainy evening of April 21 was cozy and filled with a cheerful mood in the hall of the Burgas State Opera with the performance of THE BARBER OF SEVILLE / Il Barbiere Di Siviglia. The innovative reading of Prof. Dr. Alexander Tekeliev and the set and costume designer Denis Ivanov of the classic Rossini Bel Kant masterpiece, as always, caused a healthy laugh, presenting in a version of modern satire alternating funny situations, dizzying dynamics in the development of the storyline, allegorical elements woven into original stage and directorial decisions, amazing acting and vocal mastery and, last but not least - an undisguised desire on the part of all who created the colorful stage picture with a hint of teasing with a slightly bitter aftertaste - which is actually the taste of our time...

Each of the soloists and singers from the choir were in the roles of first-class actors, optimally synchronized with the messages of the production, containing different layers - universal human concepts and weaknesses, politics, folk psychology, sociology and even geopolitics - of course, everything intelligently presented - with taste, fresh teasing, healthy self-irony and humorous interpretation.
 Certainly for those present in the hall of the State Opera - Burgas, the performance of "The Barber of Seville" was an invigorating experience, bringing answers to a number of life and philosophical questions in the form of humorous ideas with a flavor of modern parables.

The renowned conductor Ivan Kozhuharov was brilliant behind the podium this time too - with the whirlwind interpretation of the virtuoso score, brilliantly performed by the orchestra.

Andrey and Maria Yurkovsky were first-class singers and actors in the roles of Figaro and Rosina. Beautiful, charming, carrying the energy of youth, possessing wonderful vocal qualities and a sense of detail and the attitudes of the audience were the two soloists. As a beautiful and sincerely sympathetic couple - both on stage and in life, the two singers contain a positive aura and the ability to grab the attention of the audience.
 Unapologetically in the interpretation of the bravura Rossini passages and impressive heights, filigree transitions, beautiful dynamic nuances, captivating stage presence and excellent interaction with all the other actors was the tenor Nikolay Motsov /guest/, who also sang at the memorable premiere in October 2021, as well as in most performances of the production

Again fresh, provoking wild laughter and even touching indulgence from the audience - due to the well-deserved ridicule by all the characters for his ridiculous behavior as an aging connoisseur of the inaccessible beauty of the young coquette Rosina.

Brilliant - as an artistic interpretation, and as a vocal backing, was the bass Delyan Slavov in the role of the cunning music teacher with a second profession - a slanderer, pimp and intriguer, who convincingly presented the complex image, giving it the characteristic emotional coloring.

The soprano Nona Krastnikova was again sweeping - as a stage energy, personal charm and intelligent interpretation of the comic image of Bertha, who has not lost her taste for life's pleasures and, freeing herself from inhibitions and guild prejudices, unleashes an unsuspected inner charge, which has the dimension of a stage volcano. Nona Krastnikova was impressive - both as a vocal backing, and as an artistic presence.

The baritone Yordan Hristozov was also witty and fresh, playing two roles – the musician Fiorello, who organizes Count Almaviva's serenade under Rosina's window, and the Officer from Seville, who keeps a close eye on public order.

Admirations to all the artists from the choir - they played magnificently - with scope and a sense of humor, a modern play based on Rossini's immortal music.

At the end of the performance, the traditional basket of flowers was presented on behalf of the mayor of Burgas Municipality - Mr. Dimitar Nikolov.
